A phenomenal day for live music on Teesside. Up and coming live music. Up and coming, local and national, music across venues in and around Teesside University.
Next Saturday.
Cannot wait.

I'm there to see The Howl and The Hum.

Saw them at Stockton Calling then at Darlington t'other week, fantastic live.

A quirky, brilliant band from York, they are on second last in the Uni Hub...don't miss them!

Yes, the Howl and the Hum are on my list of must see's. Slightly awkward on the timing as Kioko are another don't miss band for me on at TSone half an hour before Howl and the Hum and there is going to be an overlap. It's tricky to tear yourself away from Kioko in full throttle, but it will have to be done I think.

That Darlington Last Train Home festival was good I thought. Not as well attended as it deserved, but it was a first year. Good line up though and those who were there clearly enjoyed it.

Link to Twisterella Spotify playlist in case anyone hasn't done their homework yet.
"I've been trying to listen to the bands a bit earlier this year instead of doing it the night before. Made up Another Twisterella Spotify playlist if anyone is interested. I know there is one already on Spotify but it only has a third of the songs. I think there is 90+ on this one. Only bands I couldn't find on Spotify was Talent Show(just changed to this name from James Leonard Hewitison) and Venus. You can find both on YouTube. Link below or just type Twisterella 2018 - Another Playlist into Spotify and it should come up."

Pop up sessions just announced.

The two I caught last year in the Bottled note, Amelia Coburn and Noemie Wolfs/Joe Hamill were outstanding.

Also the Ross Leighton one in Alchemy in 2015? was the special.

Sold out so it's a massive thanks to everyone for their support.
Saturday is going to be a very busy one, and noticeably so, so if a venue is full then please crack on to another venue and take a chance on an act who you might not necessarily have heard of.
Twisterella is programmed very deeply so there's a whole bunch of amazing acts playing from start to finish. One of the delights is discovering someone new so please go for it!

Wristband exchange opens at midday at Teesside University SU.

Middlesbrough we are so, so proud and absolutely chuffed with the response to this year's event. Thank you all and UTFB

It will need to be even bigger next year 👍

I guess part of your job this year will be looking at attendance and flow and timings to see how it all pans out.

Pop up venues are free entry. They are the official fringe events. See the link in Lefty's post for the names of the venues that are hosting these pop up sessions. Anyone can go to them and you don't need a wristband to gain entry to them.

All of the main venues are wristband entry only. The capacity of the festival across all of these venues is 1000. This part of the festival is entirely sold out and there are no tickets available on the day. No entry to those venues without a wristband.

I hope that this makes things clear.

If anyone is after a ticket then keep an eye on Twitter, Facebook and here for anyone selling.

Putting them on downstairs last year was a master stroke.Everyone in that room felt the magic.

They are upstairs this time I think?

Yes, they are upstairs, but by the time they come on only Bryde will still be playing (and they finish only 20 minutes into the AP set), so I'm pretty sure upstairs will be heaving just as much as downstairs was.

Downstairs holds about 100-110. Upstairs holds about 250. I suspect like last year it will be one in one out for the Avalanche Party.

Discovered Baker Street yesterday, with all the micro pubs! Good atmosphere. Saw Nel Unlit at the Slater's Pick. Very quiet band, and being a bit deaf, couldn't catch lot of what they said....but very interesting sound and vocals. What is their name all about?
Also saw Damien McFly again at Bottled Note - very engaging bloke!
Was driving so couldn't stay too long in Boro - can't cope without a drink!

A great day out some great bands and a few that I thought would be great turned out to be a bit disappointing.

Blinders were amazing as was Roe. Mi Mye were good but the drums drowned out the vocals a bit I thought. Harri Endersby had a lovely voice and was really good. The Black Sheep Fredrick Dickens started the day off with an awesome set to a packed Westgarth 2. They'll need a bigger venue next year as word is getting round about them. Likewise Be Quiet, Shout Loud who played a brilliant set to a packed Uni. Dead Naked Hippies were good as well. Another good crowd. Most venues seemed to have decent size audiences. Leddie MC was good my first time seeing her but hopefully not the last. Good to see Rob_FMTTM supporting his next door neighbour.
Mention for Shy-Talk who I didnt see but were my sons band of the day.

On the downside I thought Boy Azooga were pretty boring. I enjoyed them at the Westgarth earlier in the year so maybe it was a bit early or they paled after seeing The Black Sheep Fredrick Dickens. Rascalton were another I thought were pretty average although I know a lot of people who like them. Crystal were okish. The biggest let down for me though was Bryde. I was really looking forward to seeing her thinking she sounded a bit like Bat For Lashes but came ofer as just another indie guitar band. Maybe it was the end of a long day.

Felt guilty about missing The Howl and The Hum but I sure they will have been superb. All in all a great day. Thanks to all involved in putting it on and all the steller performers and well done all those who turned up and made it a sell out.

John Otway and Jilted John tonight. Onwards and upwards.

Highlights for me were Vista,Abel raise the cain,The Snuts
Thanks so much to all involved in putting on this showcase of great music. It really did show Middlesbrough in a great light. When do next years tickets go on sale?

Really sorry about the need for the AP queue. Basically it was already rammed upstairs for AP well before Estrons had finished their set and there was a real risk of the best part of another hundred or so people wanting to go up to see them, hence the need to queue. That said, enough people exited the upstairs room meaning that everyone who was in the queue got in certainly by the end of the second song. I can only apologise to anyone who wanted to get in to see them and either missed them or only saw part of the set. It was just a matter of the numbers of people there and I was really worried that we could have had a real issue if we were not careful. Thanks though to anyone caught up in this for their patience and understanding. Another brilliant day so thank you all for your support.

Just spoke to him.

It sounds like Damian had a cracking time and loves the festival the people and the area.

Paul had a good time too carrying the guitar around and pretending he was on the line up, posing for photo’s and signing autographs 😁

Paul helped him with his luggage and guitar to catch the midnight bus to London for his flight back.

What a brilliant day as always. Best day of the year.

I caught 12 bands/artists and decided to have a break for a bite to eat and a drink this year for the first time.

I saw:
TBSFD
Boy Azooga
Venus
Leddie MC
BQSL!
The Mysterines
Dylan Cartlidge
Roe
The Snuts
The Blinders
Bryde
Avalanche Party.

The only one I was dissapointed with was Boy Azooga as the set never seemed to get going for me although I did leave after about 15 mins to go and see Venus.

Highlights for me were Venus, BQSL!, The Snuts, The Blinders and the incredible Avalanche Party. What a performance that was by the band and the crowd!

Now I've got so many photos to process it's going to be late nights all this week [cr]
