Chris Wilder quoted as saying Pulis was desperate to get bodies in.
This was straight after we'd pis sed on Utd. He shook his head in disbelief
By my reckoning we've got £20 million worth of players not even in the 1st 11
Not including Hughill or the kids.
If he's so bothered about how much "Steve" spent last year, why was he trying to get6 more in?
We don't need 6.
We need 2 maybe 3 if he's excluding the kids.
I like Pulis, but ffs start coaching instead of whining about what you haven't got.

Could it be reverse psychology by Pulis and the norm for the normal fans who always whinge?

Too many times weíve had a load of bull from the club/manager. Pulis is right, support and efforts in this transfer window have been abysmal.

Pulis is right - short of quality and quantity. Keep giving it to us straight, Tony

We didnít go up last season, did we?

Since then we have sold our 3 best players and NOT replaced them.

Get your calculator out, how the hell do we only need 2 signings then???

Maybe,I'm sure it must be a generational thing,we were brought up in the 70s Boro never had money, since the Robbo years we have wasted well over 100 million on players that ended up being cra p,lazy, heartless, mercenaries.
We actually have 1 of the best squads in this league,we really don't need another 5/6 mill on the wage bill.
This sky generation love to spend Steves money!

How have we NOT replaced them

Gibson - CD = Flint - CD
Traore - Mid = McNair - Mid
Bamford - Forward = Hugill - Forward

Looks like we replaced them to me

Flint was bought for Gibbo
We were always losing 1 forward...Rudyor Fletcher would of been my choice
Hughill has replaced Bamford
So we need a right winger
Cover for George
And a no 10

Braithwaite has come back in to replace Traore in the squad Pulis worked with last season. We are arguably not worse off at the minute.

I donít see what our failure to get promoted last season has to do with our chances this season.

When quoted as saying we were in for 6 or 7 it doesn't mean we need that many ffs.

It means we were in for that many players hoping to get2-3 of them.the other being back up plans who we moved onto.

Do you really think such an experienced manager would only have say two targets and if we don't get them just sit there twiddling his thumbs?

Of course not. He probably wanted a full back and one or two behind the striker. That's exactly what we needed.

We tried for 6 or 7 doesn't mean we were going to get 6 players! It means we failed on option 1 and option 2 for each position and that our recruitment team is dreadful

He is quite definitely not moaning - he is telling it as he sees it - but he is also not having a pop at people upstairs - he means collectively they weren't able to do the deals.
Pulis keeps being at pains to say he wanted to firstly make sure the books were balanced and then the team was balanced and then they would improve it.
So he says they have managed to do the first and second - although they since lost players. But he wanted to make sure the club was very stable financially after the big spend last summer.
But he is not moaning - he is disappointed. As disappointed he says as the fans - but not disappointed at Neil Bausor or Steve Gibson just that collectively they failed to land their men.

Rob,we get 3 players wages off the books and raise 40 mill
That was done to balance the books.
So when Traore left the books were balanced?
So how does signing 5+ players,a couple from prem clubs on prem wages do anything other than unbalance the books?
Someone is chatting shi t

I think a lot of people are blinded by the performance on Tuesday, yes we tortured them for half an hour and had the game won. But they were awful, the 2nd half we were pretty poor and this was just 3 days after we spent 80 minutes getting hammered by Millwall a team who finished below us.

Yes itís a tough place to go etc etc, but a team who is pretty much looking to finish top 2 should go there and struggle to break them down not get run ragged.

Braithwaite looks a different player as does howson and wing has put some life into our midfield. All great.

But we still have no decent full backs, still only have 1 decent wide player and even he might go.

I agree with Pulis we donít have the quality needed or the depth to last the marathon, itís obvious to see imo. Shotton isnít going to play like Kyle walker every game, wing shouldnít have much pressure on him and as I said braithwaite could easily leave or revert to type when his move doesnít materialise.

We looked no where near villa in them play off games and weíve arguably got a worse team now.

Certain players suit certain managers and systems, pretty much every manager ever has offloaded and the loaded up with what they want.

Traore, Gibbo, bamford out for 40m
Braithwaite, flint, Hugill, mcnair in for 12m

Nobody is gonna replace Traore, itís practically impossible to get a player that exciting, with such ability, potential, and great character. Even harder to get them to the championship. We get one about once every 25 years.

Just gotta blast the loans and jan window and we might have enough.

Deadline day was a let down but Iím more than happy with the ins and outs for what could be expected.

I apologise you are totally correct!.

He was going to buy two Millwall lads and besic and Bolasie and the other 3-4 and make the squad even bigger than when he arrived. A few months after saying the squad is too big.

Makes sense.

If players had come in then Iím sure others would and still might go out. Take Besic for example, Iím led to believe if that deal had happened then Leadbitter would have been free to join one of a couple of clubs who had made enquiries.

Bang on - as they say!
Hopefully there are loan deals out there (whilst not ideal) can add depth in the full back positions and a productive attacking midfielder with plenty of assists in him - if not goals too. Besic would be extra depth but he isn't that man.

BOROMAN28

Do you REALLY not get "get all this moaning from Pulis and fans?"

The problem might be that we are used to managers spouting the company line about how we are 'confident' that the squad can rise to the occasion and that everything is just peachy. We finally seem to have a manager who tells it like he sees it and that somehow shocks us. He thinks the squad as it stands isn't strong enough to be promoted. Well, not that surprising then as a large section of the support probably think the same way.

And the comment about having replaced Traore. McNair is a solid enough buy. But a replacement for Traore? Now that IS hilarious.

I like Pulis honesty, just don't agree with his assessment.
I never said we d replaced Traore!
I'm not depressed about the team or the squad,I'd like to rely a lot more on our youth stead of trying to buy everyone else's.
Always quoted" the famous Middlesbrough academy"
Then use it!
If we don't go up,so what!
We can't compete financially anyway, wolves and Fulham have just spent 100mill,they are fcuked if they come straight back down

Boroman28 - what planet do you live on?

The squad and team were not good enough to go up last season - fact.
It has definitely been weakened since then with the departure of some excellent players - our best players.
Those signed may be decent, but they are simply not as good.
We have been unable to move on some utter rubbish and some of our players are ageing visibly.

I honestly can't see how anybody in their right mind thinks we are able to sustain a challenge for the top 2.
Even the manager can't.

Gibbo for Flint. Ok he looks shaky at the minute, nut given time and clean sheets,I believe he'll only get stronger. Plus he will score way more than Gibbo did
Traore as much he was our main man,we were so over reliant on him, everyone was playing to his strengths, without him I believe we will be a lot more balanced.
Paddy has been replaced
Wing is looking good
Braithwaite is giving us goals which we never had from midfield last year
