Its the best ive seen but still a very tiny bit grainy in motion on footy (the ball on a match also suffers from slight ghosting). Not quite up to the old sportsmania quality.

I have directly it plugged into an internet wall socket with BT 65mbps.

The thing I dislike about Xeon is that it requires me to use Perfect Player which is a bit of a bind. Maybe I just need to get more familiar with it but I seem to spend most of my time shuffling left to right through the endless lists of channels. It seems to take ages to find what I'm looking for.

BoroJim I have taken a 3 month sub on your advice, to compare with my present supplier Xeon.
The service is excellent and cheaper than Xeon, but Xeon still rules when it comes to live football. Which is the main reason people have iptv (I guess)
The video quality on live games is superior on Xeon.
I also had a 3 month sub with Dream Streams to compare their product and it to was excellent but again let down by live football.
So I am now fully subscribed to Xeon until Sept 2019 and very happy with the service

I thought I would give a fairly balanced, neutral review of Xeon seeing as its often heavily promoted here.

For reference my set up is a gigabit network, fully wired ethernet end to end, 65" LG C8 calibrated OLED, 7.1.2 Dolby Atmos KEF surround setup. Nvidia shield android TV Streaming box (will play anything you throw at it, 400mbps video is no problem, for reference uncompressed blu-ray rips are about 140mbps max, netflix/amazon prime is about 15mbps)

Did the free trial 2 days ago for 24h

The good:
Quick to set up

Admin responsive to queries

channels started playing quickly

Quality generally good

Cheap at £50 for the year if you order before Sunday, £70 after that.

The bad:
Watched an MLS game on Sky Sports HD In 1080p - it crashed out once and buffered 3 times during the game, and this is a game thats not at load like a peak prem game. I could have just been unlucky but YMMV.

Some channels are listed as being FHD (Full HD) but when you load them are only 720P or SD. SD upscaled to 4k and compressed looks awful.

If you have a large TV, you will see compression artefacts close up.

Couldn't seem to see a way to filter the channels (i.e only show FHD) but I wasn't looking seriously - there may be a way - every major channel seems to have Full HD, HD and SD versions to takes a while to scroll through.

American channels in 1080p seem to be lower quality than UK broadcast channels. More video artifacting is visible.

As it is IPTV, there will be a 1-2 min delay usually - any streaming service will have this though so its to be expected, but if you have alerts on games e.g boro or england, it can mean you know when goals are going to go in, so if this bothers you, disable it.

The audio stream is 2 channel stereo on all channels, from SD to FHD. This means for any films or live sport or whatever, you'll either only have stereo sound or you will have faux-surround sound, which is generally considered worse.
I always see in these threads that there is 'no buffering' and 'no issues' yet when you scroll through the group chat, theres people reporting buffering, streams not working or flickering, the Plex server sounds a bit crap with admin always saying he is working on it etc.

No 4k/HDR content

Overall if you want it for live sport and stuff thats not on it the UK, or you just want cheap IPTV, I think its a good service - especially if you aren't bothered about picture quality or sound quality. At a few feet away the picture quality issues will lessen with distance, but sound is always gonna be 2-channel stereo so wont be immersive, so I'd say its not great for films from that perspective.

RE: buffering and crash; I'm sure I will be told that I need to reboot my router or check my settings etc as thats the standard response on streaming services, but I can assure my router is fully operational, my network is streamlined and fast, and zero issues with another content whatsoever.

There's a lot of content on there that will keep people busy if thats what you want, but its definitely not a perfect service and I'll be keeping my UHD sky subscription, but wanted to offer a balanced view for anyone on the fence about the service.

Re: the buffering. I have found that it doesn't seem to make a difference whether it is peak or not. Sometimes it just stops but every time it has happened to me it has been a case of just going back to the menu and reselecting the channel. It means missing 5-10 seconds when it happens but it's not very often. I watched both matches on Sunday and the golf Saturday night and it happened twice.

Does anyone have the Plex service on Xeon? What is the quality, speed programs/films are added etc like? I am tempted to add it on as I pay for a premium scraper anyway so if that works well then I might switch.

Plex seems to be the most common request on the channel with people asking for things to be added, there is a request channel, but people seem to be complaining quite often it wont connect, a server is down or theres hardly anything on because of a server crash.

If you want TV's and Movies, you can get a usenet subscription for £3.20 a month and with 20 minutes of setting up Radarr/Sonarr, you can download pretty much anything you want in any quality you want. It will even create an .ICAL so you can see on a calendar when your TV shows are on. Usenet will download at the full speed of your pipe so things are very quick.

Usenet is more work, but its worth it for actual 1080p/4k content and surround sound/DTS/Atmos etc

I have a Plex sub, watching a selected tv episode or movie is completely buffer free.
There are quite a few people having problems with Plex but it usually appears to be operator error rather than Plex.
However I will not be renewing my sub as Plex doesn't seem to be able to auto update latest episodes.
I will be using Terrarium tv which suits my purpose for usually watching an episode the following day after broadcast. I use this in conjunction with a real debrid account for 720p and 1080p feeds.

Plex is a tv and movie vod service

I already use Real Debrid with Kodi/Terrarium so I will give Plex a miss in that case.

I used to use Usenet heavily. I had software setup to automatically download everything as and when it became available and save and sort and upload to my own Plex server to get all the episode details etc. It was all automatic but it was still far more effort than just streaming. The quality can be really good on Kodi with certain add-ons like Gaia as long as you have a Premium scraper service like Real Debrid or Premiumize.

I suppose it depends on what you deem as good quality. I've never used a streaming service that has been anywhere near the quality of what I get on Usenet, and I've tried many. The resolution may be 1080p, but you can get 1080p that is 3mbps. By their very nature streams are heavily compressed & at the video bitrates these streams are on, they're well encoded, but looking at 1080P streams on Xeon on say BBC HD, or Sky Sports Football HD, there is artifacting and colour gamut is reduced and you can see some loss of detail which is to be expected.

Audio compression makes a huge difference as well.

But all of that assumes you have a good display unit and a good surround sound setup. If you dont, none of this will bother you at all.

Or even if you do - my neighbour has a £5k projector that does 4k in his home cinema room, and he is happy with Kodi streams - all depends on what you want I suppose. for me quality is king, followed by convenience, which is why I don't mind paying for Sky for any content that is on there.

anyway the jargon free summary of my review is: Good if you aren't mega bothered about the best picture quality or sound stream, and just want it for stuff thats not on TV services, or prefer convenience, but I think its a bit overhyped as everyone says zero issues, but clearly it does have some. Good value for money.

Thefair86.

Looking at your very impressive equipment I can imagine you do actually spend more time looking and listening for defects rather than watching the programme.Unlike you however there are many on here who have a simple led (4k 49" for me) tv and soundbox and being very envious of your formidable equipment.

Nope, I just earn good money and spend it on good equipment. The equipment is immaterial however largely, as you would see improvements on any 1080p or 4k set, or soundbar/surround sound setup.

We watch films and TV shows daily, downloaded and broadcast. Quality is definitely key to me because I have good equipment and enjoy getting the best out of it, which doesn't take long to do - as soon as you look at anything you can tell if its what you want or not.

I'll give you an example. the below is a 1080p broadcast of Thor taken from Xeon. On any equipment I'd expect a stream to be sharper and better quality than this. It's very soft, and lacking in detail. Yes you can 'watch' it, but you aren't really experiencing it in 1080p except in resolution alone. It is massively compressed hence the lack of detail. Even on a 49" TV I would rather watch good quality content and get the best out of whatever gear I have. Soundbars will benefit from a better audio feed and many have separate subwoofer channels so wont sound as good in 2-channel stereo.

For live sport, its a great service, likewise for foreign sports (although as said, the US channels seem to be more compressed than the UK ones). Great for those that like NBA, NFL etc as well as football, but I wouldn't see it as anywhere near to being a sky replacement except on price alone. The quality is miles off.
