10th August
Boro played at home to Benfica, in front of 21,101, drawing 1-1 with John Hickton our goal, the great Eusebio playing for Benfica [^]

Boro team:
Whigham, M.Allen, Jones, Stiles (McMordie) Boam, Spraggon, D.Downing, Mills, Hickton, Vincent, Laidlaw

Stan Anderson signed both Stuey Boam & Nobby Stiles that summer

Remember the match and signing Stuey from Mansfield and Nobby Styles too, I think the fee for SB was £65, 000.00 ?

Another highlight was buying my first single Coz I luv you and also get down and get with it both by Slade that year, bought at Boots the chemist record dept.

Gets me thinking of my parents and how lucky I've been.

Another fogey checking in! I think I was still waiting for my A Level results, working through the week over at Leeming Bar.

But yes, I was there - unlike Max Boyce, who didnít start irritating the English until 1973.

I was there. It was my first ever match, I had to beg my dad, who wasn't a big football fan

It poured down all night as I remember, soaked to the skin, but still went back for more.

I managed to get hold of the programme a couple of years back.
