I know it's only a bit of fun but it really is almost impossible to say. Look back four years ago and run a similar exercise and you probably wouldn't have had half of the stand out performers from this tournament in there.

It's the age old problem of game time and development for these younger age groups that have had all this success. Will they get the game time, will they be brave and leave their cushy clubs and salaries if they aren't?

The likes of Rashford, Loftus Cheek etc need to be playing week in week out now, wherever that may be.

In terms of names for first team involvement in four years, honourable mention for Oxlade Chamberlain who will only be 28, I'm certain he would have played this time round if it wasn't for injury.

The main reason behind it (removing the skepticism of it purely being all about money), was to make international 'friendlies' more competitive.

EDIT: got that wrong...There's four places available for qualification to the Euros, which is a bit of a twist on the playoff games (again being sceptical you could say this is Eufa's way of making sure the top teams always qualify, or more of them anyway, to protect their brand etc).

No, qualies as usual, were 20 teams will qualify, then four mini playoffs will take place amongst the best ranked teams from the nations leagues (for those that haven't qualified yet).

I originally thought it was one single playoff bu that's not the case, it's four. Then you've obviously got your 24 competing teams.

I can understand you saying Cook is a good prospect (nobody can simply choose to be 'as good as they want to be'), but your views on Foden are surely based purely on his good performance for the U17 in India.

Top level football is a completely different kettle of fish. How much of the tournament did you watch anyway?

Plenty of talent in and around the squads, like I say, it's all about how much game time they are going to get or how much they are willing to go and get.

Lookman
Sancho
Gomez
Trent A-A
Sess
Winks
Brewster
Foden
RLC
Everton have a few - Davies, Holgate, Kenny etc
Maddison
M-Niles
Mount

You'd think a fair few of those would be big players in the premier league in four years time.

I think it is much better. Three reasons I think it will be better:

- It replaces meaningless friendlies to give a sense of competativeness to all international matches.

- It allows smaller European nations to play competative matches against teams of a similar ability. Faroe Isles, San Marino, Andorra etc. This is good for their development and also give them something to play towards (promotion)

- It will also stop teams like Poland exploiting the current FIFA ranking system to gain a top seed in the World Cup. The way that Poland exploited the ranking system is a joke and shouldn't be allowed to happen again.

I watched three of the games in that tournament atypical. His technique and intelligence were light years ahead of most on show at that tournament. Admittedly, he needs the right attitude but from listening to people who worked with him they are saying the right things about him being down to earth.

What impressed me the most though was when I watched him in a couple of friendlies for City over in the USA, the standout one being against n almost full strength Utd side. No exaggeration, he was the best player on the pitch. Demanding the ball, dictating the tempo City played it and being the playmaker in a team full of superstars.

A future star that lad and him and Cook could be an England midfield pairing for the next decade. Nobody in the English game like them. Perhaps the closest is Jack Wilshire.

There were a few reports suggesting Sancho could have been a wildcard entry into this year's squad. He has a big future ahead of him definitely, and goes with what I'm saying about some of our younger players needing to grasp the nettle, get out there, out of your comfort zones and go play! (Appreciate not everyone is good enough to go and play for Dortmund at that age mind).

Someone with the engine of Henderson/Milner and the vision of Scholes. Has there ever been such a player?
Probably the closest has been Gerrard.

So he's great against fellow, underdeveloped school kids then.

As for being down to earth, they all are before they've had a load of money thrown at them like Foden is now, before he's achieved a thing at professional level. Lets see how he deals with it, if he ever breaks into Man City's team.

Comparing him to Modric, Xavi and Iniesta already? Its almost as if you're trying to ruin his career!

Nice selective quoting atypical. Explain his performance in the two friendlies then, particularly against Man U.

Additionally, I said they are the closest we have ever produced to those players. I didn't say they were going to be as good as them.

Explain away his performance in those friendlies then. Luck?

I'm not interested in friendlies. They don't mean a thing at club level.

I saw him come on for City in proper matches a few times where he looked lightweight and not very good at all. I've no doubt at all he'll improve, but I don't understand why you're so desperate to hype him up before his career has even started?

Remember what happened to Wilshere? He was the new Xavi iirc? Now he can't get in the England team and is playing for a mid-table side in the PL. This could *easily* happen to Foden. All I'm saying is I think you need to calm down about him a bit. He's someone to keep an eye on, nothing more yet, but you've got him starting for England in 4 years. He could just as easily be on loan at Bristol City. See Jack Rodwell as another example.

No, you wouldn't be interested in them because it goes against your argument. It is obvious you, for some reason, are not willing to consider you may have misjudged him. That's fine. We will see who was right this coming season when he plays a fair bit for City's first team as Pep has said he is going nowhere on loan because he rates him that highly he wants him in his first team squad. Strange move considering he is so "rubbish and lightweight".

What would guardiola know about young players like him anyway? He has done nothing of note has he?

I said that at this level, so far, he has looked lightweight and a bit rubbish in a few cameo sub appearances. I'll judge him once his balls have dropped at least, though, and he's actually started a few games on the trot.

Hey, feel free to bookmark this and hoof it to prove me wrong. I hope I am, and I hope he goes on to captain England to world cup glory. I just find the hype about this lad remarkable, almost a bit disturbing. Its like we've learned nothing from the players we've hyped in the past. Even Rooney's international career didn't turn out anything like people thought/hoped it would (1 world cup goal) and no one has looked better than him at 17.

I read that too, but the Sun also said this (probably a lie but FWIW):

"Speculation has been rife that Jamaican winger Bailey could switch his allegiance to England, as he has two grandparents with British passports. Bailey has also fuelled the fire by saying he is not yet ready to commit to Jamaica as he isn't convinced it's the right move for his career.

He said: "One thing I want people to know is I love my country. But at the end of the day, I have to think about myself developing as a young player, and my aim is to become the best player in the world.

"For me to achieve that, I need to be on the right path -- and I think at this moment, choosing Jamaica is not the right path for me.

But Bailey's grandparents were not born in England and therefore he would not be eligible to play for the Three Lions.

At present, Germany and Belgium, where he has spent most of his playing career, are more realistic options for a change of allegiance."
