To hope to cling to a 1-0 lead for 85 minutes was just naiive.

After they scored we lost it in the head - we just couldn't get back to play the same way we had played previously.

We shuuda gone for the kill and fished them off. Typical Southgate really.

they were shellshocked for the first 30 minutes, couldnt string passes together and overhitting them out of play,we shoulda been outta sight, the tide turned at halftime when their manager pointed out we are toothless go get at em

Should have looked to start the 2nd half the same way we started the 1st but we sat back and allowed them to take control. Big mistake. We tired as the game wore on as well which was strange considering we have a younger side and they had to win two penalty shoot-outs to get to the semi.

We missed more technical players who can hold the ball like lallana and wilshere. We need to promote reall footballers not rashford and stirling who lose the ball constantky. We young too we will learn and come backstronger

I was surprised by that as they were playing a high pressing game, but I suppose we were chasing the ball for a lot of the time.

Get a grip.

Wily old group of seasoned pros, with some top class players, beats spririted young squad who frightened the life out of them.
Young sides make mistakes at both ends of the pitch. We did tonight

Kane - shattered at 45 mins
Tripperier non exists from 55 mins - exhausted
Young dead on his feet from 45 mins
Henderson flogged to death marking 4 on his own at 60 mins
Ali & Lingard - didn’t do enough of the spade work - carried
Substitution- wrong players at wrong time
Furious we lost this because of naivety not because the Croats were better

Beaten by the first decent team we played.

In 2002 out to Brazil. Then Portugal. Then Germany. Then I think out in a group with Italy. All genuine quality teams

Absolutely nothing different about this group of players. They got a ridiculously fortunate draw. Panama Columbia Sweden.

Well done and they gave their all and all that but sick of people saying there's something different about this team

Modric ran the game again.

Never get a better chance in our lifetime........maybe France may disagree with that?

Even if we scraped through tonight, could not see us having enough to beat them.

OP is off his trolley.

We went for it at 1-0 up in the first half and failed to capitalise.

Became too cautious in the 2nd half and they worked out our pass it around and revert to keeper strategy. They pressed high and early and caused panic.

Better overall tactics won it. We didn't know how to break them down in extra time.

Naviety cost us in the end. Very excited by this group and the younger players following them. Good times ahead!

I'll paste the thread I started in here:-

Ultimately everything had to go right for them and it did. We scored early but then got drawn into believing the counter goal would happen.

Constantly looking to get Sterling in behind in the second half in particular. When they scored we realised but it was too late. Their goals were fortunate but relied on our willingness to get something of a clearance on absolutely everything g. They allowed us the first clearance which were getting more desperate and just ensured they got the 2nd ball by not committing

We had chances and ultimately Alli and Kane had poor games but I'm proud. Youthful exuberance lost today, it happens its nothing to be upset about. It hurts but it's been a privilege having the hope and belief and love for the team back.

"Well done and they gave their all and all that but sick of people saying there's something different about this team"

I think there was something different about this team. We won two knock-out matches, one by winning a penalty shoot-out. That in itself seperates this team from many other England teams. They've shown great character and looked to actually play football. Yes, we may not have beaten a top class side, but at the last Euros we couldn't even beat Iceland in a knockout game. That team like many other Eangland teams had zero bottle. This team had bottle, but ultimately were inexperienced and not quite enough quality.

We needed a ' Modric'. For me that player should have been been Shelvey or even, daft as it sounds,Jack Grealish.Players that cherish the ball. Never mind,it was a good time - sunshine, plenty of football, England winning.....and we don't have to suffer dealing with Mbappe!

Sterling played verry well the rest of the Midfield were dreadful lingard and ali were shocking. Then rashford came on and did a perfect imitation of Ashley Fletcher. If all these players were dead on their feet it was criminal not to introduce the energetic lotus cheek. Southgate got it wrong and his subs turned the game to croatia

We did, were far better than them in the first half and could have been 3 up with better finishing / choice of final ball.

Fair enough point about the penalty shoot out parmo.

And yes they had bottle and character.iguess I meant ability wise.

Further on in the tournament but still beaten by similar quality teams that we went out to in previous tournaments.

Yeah, I do agree with you there to be fair. I wouldn't say this team is better than the 06 world cup team ability wise, but that team was a team of individuals and they played like it, where as this team has played like a team. We've actually had a system and an identity.

Exactly right Madetobreakyourspirit.

Sterling, Alli, Kane, Stones, Pickford and others may go on to acheive great things in their careers (or maybe they won't), but right now they have very little experience at the very highest level. And a WC semi final qualifies as the very highest level. For everyone except Henderson, this was easily the biggest game they've been involved in, whilst for Modric, Rakitic and Mandzukic, this was just another major semi final in their glittering careers at elite clubs. At least 3 of their other players have recent appearances in semi finals and finals of the CL or Europa League.

Croatia knew how to win that game and we didn't unfortunately. But hopefully we can learn from the experience and do better in two years time. Man City and Spurs getting into the last 4 of the CL would also improve our collective experience, whilst Spurs winning something wouldn't be a bad thing for England either.

We ran them very close.

They are a good experienced team and they needed a couple of defensive mistakes to get past us.

I don’t think Southgate or the players did much wrong. Maybe they could have put the boot in more on their midfield but do we really want our national team to play like that?

Can think of at least 2 sitters.
