I don't think that 'tweet' means his leaving.

his talking about 'BORO' the institution, not himself.

but if he were to leave, that's fine with me, his a top class young English player, he will be even better with better players around him.

I can see him going to arsenal.

"However, he stood out in the premier league. Itís been his best season for us".

Gibson was protected in the Premier League by our ultra defensive approach. One man exposed up front on his own, the rest of the team in a defensive mode in particular the midfielders and a line at the back.

When Agnew took over after Karanka in the main he threw off the defensive shackles in an attempt to win games, Gibson was woefully exposed ... none more so than at Hull City (away).

Gibson is a clever player but not a team player in my view. He leaves the dirty work to others whilst dropping off into space himself. I have watched him very closely for a long time now and that is clearly evident.

The fact that he has played 75 or so matches and never missed a single game through injury or suspension is further evidence of this. (The one game he missed he was physically sick pre-match). For a central defender that's an amazing run of matches. All of our other key defenders have picked up injuries e.g. Chambers, Ayala, Friend etc. in that time.

It was interesting that Gibson was called up for the England squad once but not given a second chance.

I have absolutely nothing against Gibson, these are just my honest opinions on his ability. I wish him all the best for the future wherever that takes him and as "one of our own" he is assured a warm reception on his return to The Riverside whenever that may be.

So?

Does the 3rd choice keeper turn it down? For a young player you go for the experience and you prepare to step in. Giving you the insight to improve your game to be 1st choice next time round.

Also there are 12 subs named, so he'd be on the bench for every game rather than in the stands.

And no decent England team has finished the tournament with the same 11 that it started. There's always a chance that you get on & can make a difference.

It'd be fantastic way to spend a couple of weeks.

Only one club went public with their approach.

Plus he made his debut in the March of our hardly stellar season in the Premier League, no reason to doubt had he continued playing & performing at the same level that he would have remained around the squad despite his teams performance.

Good luck to him if he goes. He stuck by us when Iím sure he had offers to leave last summer.

This hasnít been Gibsonís greatest season by far, in fact heís probably made more mistakes this year than he made in his debut season. A lot of those came in the first half of the season though when the whole team was a mess. Iíd say under Pulis he regained his focus, apart from his Ipswich away debacle.

I think he could go to any team outside the top 6 in the premier league and get game time.

I got slated on here for saying we should have sold him last summer. His stock was high after his first season in the Prem and we would have got good money for him, and it would have been a much better move for his career. Ben Gibson was never going to be the difference between us gaining promotion or not, it was always going to be much more down to our midfield and attack and we could have got a more than adequate centre back to replace him for less than half the money we would have received.

Now he is off the back of a poor season in an inferior division and unfortunately his value would have dropped. I honestly wish him well and have nothing against him, I just felt it would have been a better move for everyone all round last summer.

Think his weaknesses have been exposed this season not having the defensive shield that Karanka created.

His distribution & positioning needs a huge amount of work, guess the right coach could improve these areas. In my opinion he will only attract offers from promoted clubs or those that finished in the bottom 8, he's not good enough at the moment to play any higher.

Would expect no more than 10/12m for him, his value has halved this season

Central defenders is a position where there are quite a few English players similar to Ben playing in the premier. I would rather he stayed, but wouldn't begrudge him going, I think Fry is able to step up.

This summer we should be focusing our efforts on quality signings rather than quantity, one or two players that enhance the sqaud in the creative department and they wont be cheap in terms of cost or wages

25-30 million for the pair..... Maguire went to Leicester last year for 17 million and is better than Gibson. So 12-15 million is reasonable
Traore has a goal every 12 games whoís final product is lacking but has potential. 10-15 is reasonable.

OK, personally I'm confident we'd get £15m+ for Gibson and £25m+ for Traore, IF we were to sell. Possibly with add ons too.

The club proved last Summer we don't sell on the cheap. Turned down 11mil from Lille for Adama, held out for 14mil for de Roon, etc

We'd be utterly mad to sell him for less than 30mil. 2 bad play off games don't erase everything else he did for us.

"Methinks imaginations have gone into overdrive here!"
--

I can understand what you mean in regards to the tweet, but I think there has been more to this for a while.

It felt odd at the time that he signed a contract extension in 2016 to keep him here until 2021 then signed another extension in 2017 to keep him here until 2022; he also signed the second extension on the back of 2 wins in 10 and dropped to our lowest position all season (bar the first game).

Could be reading too much into it, but I feel like any transfer for Gibson this summer was predetermined at the beginning of this season and agreed that he can go if we don't get promoted as long as he helps us get the maximum fee for him.

Would swap him for Chambers in a heartbeat. We need a CB that can carry the ball and bring teams out from 10 behind the ball and he canít do that. His distribution this year has been very poor and our rock solid defence of two years ago has looked anything but that this year. Good luck to the lad - hope he gets his dream move and is improved by playing with better players but not the loss he would have been a few years ago.
