Another season in Championship not all that bad

Not sure another season in championship end of world. Watching side actually win games, be on the attack, bigger fish in smaller pond. Hopefully another promotion push rather than scrapping for 38-40 points from day 1.

Not going into half the games being happy with 0-0 or celebrating a corner v the top dogs.

Think the landscape has changed from promotions of past when sides could dream of going up and making proper impression and challenging for top 4, now almost(barring leicester freak season) impossible.

Oh and dont forget more night games too.

Might sound unambitious but would rather watch side be on top in games and win 20+ a season than a constant battle.

I think/thought similar also, but that said, we spent a fair bit of money last season. How much will we have this season?

Winning games will still turn into apathy if it means we're going to midtablers on 66 points etc

I enjoy the championship on the whole. Good away days and plenty of games.

If we can pick up a few players this summer we will be there or there about again next season I’m sure.

Why just settle for one season then? Why not ten seasons?

I hate this league, not getting promoted at the start of the season would have been deemed a disaster but as it turns out just getting into the playoffs ended up being an achievement.

Looking forward to next season under Pulis.

Totally enjoyable league with the glorious madness that is the championship. Far better to try to win in this than "survival mode" all season in the PL

a few years ago i wouldve said the the OP was mental.

but then we had last season in the prem and it was the worst season i have endured as a boro fan. it was just abject shyte. i still dont get why we did what we did with the players we bought; leaving aitor in the job for so long and then throwing the towel in by leaving the season down to agnew.

so, i think the op is spot on.

What about the season of finishing 7th and qualifying for Europe. Why can't we have those days back ??
The biggest danger we have in the Championship is the risk of bankruptcy if Gibson pulls the plug. Our attendances couldn't keep us in top 6

Although the idea of finishing on 40 points and simply surviving in the PL might not seem that appealing to some fans, it's about looking at the bigger picture. Survive in your first season back in the PL, and you have something to build on.

You only have to look at Burnley as an example. They scraped survival in their first season back in the PL, and have managed to build on it and finish 7th in their 2nd season. I'm sure not many Burnley fans will be wishing they were back in the Championship.

There's no reason why we shouldn't have similar ambitions.

Burnley have scored 16 goals at home this season, yea great they finished 7th but what enjoyment can you get out of that as a fan?

A win's still a win for me. I always take great pleasure in seeing Boro win, whether we do it in style, or whether it's a scrappy 1-0 win. Of course we want to be entertained as well, but I'm sure more times than not the Burnley fans will have gone home happy after a home game last season, even if the football wasn't massively pleasing on the eye.

Yeah, i'm not that upset. As much as i'd love to see us win the playoffs at Wembley, another season in the Championship isn't bad at all.

"How much will we have this season?"

More than Cardiff spent this year.
More than Villa have spent this year too, and they were bottom half last season.

Still there's no big picture here, just an ongoing now.

The sooner we are promoted, the sooner we will be relegated again. I expect to see 5 more of both in my life, with periods on both divisions in between.

I'll get wildly carried away over the promotions, and not too down over the relegations: that's the way to enjoy it.

Burnley won't stay there, Dyche may get above his station and leave or they could just struggle. They're in a false position for the players they have and will struggle to attract anyone creative with their lack of going for goals. 36 in 38 games for a team 7th in the league is unheard of.

Leicester dropped 11 places after winning the league, Burnley could be bottom three next year, as could anyone else below 6th.

Tough league the premiership now, wouldn't say the standard is better but there's the top 6 and then the rest are a bunch of mediocre sides at very similar standard, there's not much utter dross.

If and when we go up we need to invest heavily with proven prem players to even get into the mediocre category.

Yes, a bad transfer window or a poor replacement for Dyche, Burnley would soon be relegation candidates

However much progress they make, it can and will be swept away at some point in the future. They are more or less where Swansea were 6 years ago, but without a trophy.

I don't expect us to challenge for the top 4, but I would prefer us playing in the Premier League regardless. Huddersfield, Brighton and Newcastle all survived this season and will be a lot richer because of it.

Don't be put off too much by last season.

As pointed out, if we were to survive a season, it's job done, then you've a platform to build on.

Burnley are in European competition this year as we were 12-13 years ago due to league position. Of course it could go south for them, like it did us.
Would swap with them in a heartbeat.
Why wouldn't we set our ambitions to match theirs?
Good recruitment, work ethic, slice of luck. It's not impossible. It doesn't have to be a case of defending for our lives every week.
Southampton, Everton, West Ham, Bournemouth, Cardiff, Burnley, Watford, Palace, Newcastle, Huddersfield, Brighton.

There's plenty of teams we could've picked wins up against, home and away.

Isn't that a good enough reason to want to be promoted? We're not going to be nailed on for relegation

“Huddersfield, Brighton and Newcastle all survived this season and will be a lot richer because of it.”

The point of football is not to become rich.

Money is the means to the end of onvthe pitch success; what they make will not help them achieve that

A season or two winning valiantly against relegation is ok; but then the most dangerous words in football “take us to the next level” come into play.

The next level is always downwards.

I expect 13 of the current PL clubs to be relegated at some point in the next 8 seasons.

I tend to agree with the OP, am happy with the Championship as long as we are in the mix for promotion, with the odd visit to the top table. I just don't think we can compete consistently at the higher end of the premier without a massive foreign investment and I'm not sure I would like that.

People are saying look at Burnley, we had our Burnley time early 2000, after that it was Bolton, Stoke, Wigan and West Brom that had a turn. Season after next Burnley will want to go to the next level and will be in the third tier by the early 2020s

The Championship is a good league, pretty competitive and unpredictable. Wolves, Cardiff and Villa all finished in the bottom half of it last season, so finishing 5th is no disgrace

However, we have to be competing for promotion or the manager gets sacked! So yeah it's good to win more times than not, and score a lot more goals but we have to go up to the corrupt PL every so often to re-fill the coffers
