After that decision, he has to be under investigation for that.

That decision was the single worst decision (by a premier league ref) I have ever seen.

He totally bottled it in the moment and his brain 'fuzzed up' with the pressure.

Might not of made much difference but you never know.

For Steve Bruce to say, 'we might of gotten away with one there' tells you everything about Mike Deans decision.

If Dean had sent the keeper off, would it really have made a difference, I doubt it really!

it doesn't matter whether it would have made a difference, it matters that the correct decision should have been made.....

Nothing will happen, in part because there's nobody to replace him. Our refereeing is in such a sorry state that Mike Dean genuinely is one of the best around. The fact there's no British referees at a World Cup for the first time in 80 years says it all.

It definitely matters if he's sent off.

1) a man sent off rattles Aston Villa and makes them more cagey and nervous. They could easily have lost their defensive composure.

2) a man advantage would have given us a psychological lift

3) a poorer second choice keeper for the resulting sub could have changed the free kick technique.

4) we would have had an extra man advantage meaning one less marker creating more of a chance to pull a goal back

5) being more hemmed in would have caused crowd unrest which could transfer to the players.

6) fulham will be seething the Villa will be going into the final full strength.

what is the rule when a keeper deliberately handles outside the area to stop a shot on goal - if a out field player did it its a clear sending off.

Talk Sport commentators who we not pro Boro said straight red straight away one was Swindon manager.

It’s about a ‘goal scoring’ opportunity being prevented.
That is subjective and the ref took a view that it wasn’t a goal scoring opportunity.

Marginal for me

But, at the time, I was adamant [;)]

If he had not have done it the ball was going in (doubt Terry would have got there) and history may have been different, who knows. It was a straight red. I think Dean decided he did not want to rule the lad out of a Wembley appearance. He got it very wrong indeed. We will never know why, only he will.

As said though sending him off would likely have not helped Boro anyway, but rules are rules and it would have helped Fulham, but Dean is one of the better referees in my book so little will happen.

I bet the keeper has a blinder at Wembley and sees Villa up now. Fate

Would it have made a difference? Probably not........ for us. However if he plays a blinder v Fulham. Yeah, it makes a massive difference to whose promoted.

the shot was heading for the goal and it was odds against Terry would have headed it away - can't see how it couldn't be a goal scoring opportunity. I agree it wouldn't have made a big difference because of the time but it would have made some difference. And of course its the same offence in the 1st or 88th minute.

Even FIFA recognise our refs are schit - not one English ref is going to the World Cup.

People go on about Howard Webb as if he’s some sort of legend. He’s just the only English ref not to be schit.

We don’t need better referees, we just need decisions to be made by an off pitch referee watching video footage like they do in other sports. We can still keep the numpty on the pitch to show the cards, give warnings etc.

I wish people would stop trotting out this line about FIFA knowing how bad our refs are and that's why there isn't any at the World Cup. Have you seen some of the refs picked?

Clattenberg was on the list but moved to Saudi so England lost him. The other refs who'd been on the elite list were too old to be considered. England have since had other refs added to the list as replacements but it was after the FIFA deadline. It has nothing to do with the standard of referees in this country.

It could be worse anyway. Saudi's ref has been banned after admitting attempting to fix their national cup final a few days ago

So how does this work when the opposition have 2 men sent off and with still half an hour to play? wolves?

How do you stop something like this?

If VAR had been in play in the game I don't think he'd have changed his decision as he clearly didn't think the ball would have gone in.

That post literally says "how do you stop a correct decision?". Because if he didn't think the ball would have gone in then it's unarguably correct.

The standard of refereeing is poor at the moment and even the VAR trial was a joke.
