Always a shock team to get through to the quarter or semi final?

For me Uruguay.

Egypt are poor. No chance. Not sure what it is you're exactly expecting Salah to do in that side.

On paper its got to be belgium as it's basically a prem all star team. If they click they could be a real threat and that could be an issue for England as well.

Hazard
De bruyne
Lukaku.

To name 3.

I'd be tempted to say Belgium, but it seems like such an obvious choice and they were disappointed at Euro 2016 despite being one of the faves.

I think Brazil are my pick. Not much of a dark horse, I know.

On paper they had a poor side. They played well as a side, but aside from Bales and Ramsey they had a poor side. That's the point I was making with Salah - one world class player can make a difference.

Williams, Allen, Vokes, Hennessey, King, Ledley, Taylor, Chester are not poor players by any stretch of the imagination and Wales were comfortably a top 20 ranked team.

And if you ever watched them play, you would know that their strength was as a team, not in an individual dragging them along.

Think they struggled in a lot of the World Cup qualifying matches when Bale was out injured, and didn't set the world alight when he wasn't, and they weren't in a group of star studded teams.

Well at this very moment they aren't a top 20 team.

I assume given what you've said, that you're referring to Wales' performance at Euro 2016 and that Bale somehow dragged, what you insist was a poor side to the semis, which isn't really correct.

Also, do you know anything about Egypt's national side aside from Salah?

Only against Ireland. Bale didn't play in games they won against Georgia, Moldova for example.

I think some people need educating about the meaning of the term dark horse. You can't put forward the team ranked 3rd in the world and one of the top 6 in the betting and claim them to potenially be "a candidate or competitor about whom little is known but who unexpectedly wins or succeeds" whilst in the same post listing the many world class players they have plying their trade in the Premier League.

Belgium are rightly one of the favourites for the World Cup and anyone that states they are a dark horse either doesn't understand the terminology they are using or knows the square root of **** all about football.

"They also finished top of their qualifying group."

So did all the African qualifiers. Egypt may well have Salah but they are in the Group containing hosts Russia who will have bribed the officials to ensure they get out of their Group - and Uruguay who will kick Salah all over the park.

Its about time now for everybody to start to hype up England's chances, its been very subdued so far but if a couple of key players have a good game next week we will soon get talked about as one of the favs.

Russia to reach the semi courtesy of PED's & VAR They wont even be bothered about how subtle is, I reckon at least 3 or 4 key calls in their favour.
Sergei stood on the video refs door with the menacing look and vial of poison, fifa officials sat with brown envelopes tucked in their breast pockets.

Belgium have been touted as a team to watch every world cup or European Champ for about the last 20 years. From my hazy memory they have never actually looked like winning anything when the competition gets properly underway.

I would not be surprised to see Iceland make it through to the quarters.

My outside bet - Mexico?

I think Belgium could be a force this summer.

KDB has come on leaps and bounds under Pep. And Hazard, Lukaku, Mertens are all fantastic players.

Then there is the back line that consists of Courtois, Alderwiereld, Kompany, Vertonghen, Meunier.

Their team is formidable.

However one player I can't wait to watch is Tielemans. He's been fantastic and is still only 20 years old.

Team to watch out for - Belgium

Team to win the WC (IMHO) - Germany, their team is just simply ridiculous all over the park and has the most experience of any nation.

You cannot class Belgium as a dark horse. Everyone knows they have top quality players and they've been tipped for some time now.

It's a World Cup so I doubt there will be any surprises. The usual suspects to reach the last 8 and beyond.

Belgium have fantastic players on paper but haven’t managed to put it together yet.

Quite surprised nobody has mentioned Brazil yet as well. Albeit they are as light a horse as you’ll see. Neymar, Coutinho, Firmino and Jesus are as formidable a front 4 as any. One of only 2 teams to win it outside their home continent and Russia may well feel like it’s a long way from home for a lot of the traditional European powers.

Going out on a limb here and whilst I certainly don't think England will come near to winning the WC, I don't think we'll do as badly as people expect. I genuinely think we'll make the QF.

People will scoff because of the squad but I think Argentina could surprise a lot of people given how absolutely dire they've been since the last WC.

Not a dark horse and I think this WC may be one tournament too soon, but I think France could go on to dominate over the next few years. They're a very quick and powerful squad with some quality, experienced players: Griezmann (27), Giroud (31), Kane (27), Matuidi (31) & Lloris (31); combined with outstanding young players: Martial (22), Dembele (20), Mbappe (19), Lemar (22), Pogba (25), Umtiti (24) and Varane (25).

Was looking at the odds for outright win earlier and Spain at 7/1 seems worthy of a punt.

Unbeaten in two years under Lopetegui. 13 wins in 18 and chalked up some decent victories against Argentina, Belgium, France and Italy in that time.

France have by far and away got the best set of players at the world cup, they just needed moulding into a "team". That seems to have happened now. The list of players they have left out of their squad would mostly get in our squad.
