Apparently you can no longer support your team in a civilised way. Got threatened to be kicked out of the stadium yesterday because I was supporting this amazing club and encouraging fans to sing.

Those who were at the game, what are your honest opinions?

Unsurprising unfortunately. Modern English stadiums are sanitised beyond belief and some of the overzealous stewards really do need reigning in.

East Upper, we occasionally join in, but prefer to shout not sing. Other areas are great, buts a choice thing. Travel away is different atmosphere , and we’re all mixed in. I sing sometimes but resent some drunks, and at away games it is, who have a go and “encourage” fans to sing. Nope, not for me, grow up

Its a natural thing you sing when others start and if something on the pitch inspires you... Likewise you ventyour anger when you see something that isnt right

If a person was shouting and bawling at me to sing/chant/get behind my team personally i wouldnt like it or agree it was the right thing to do

Ive had it before when its esculated and because said person hasnt got the response they wanted theyve then started calling the 'so called' supporters pathetic and a bunch of ar§eholes etc and it just gets nasty

You couldn't make this up it's a shocking state of affairs when the powers that be at a football club don't want the fans to be proactive but passive.

It is exactly the same culture that was responsible for the infamous keep the noise down letter to the embryonic "Red Faction".

This bloke would never get a job at Old Trafford because it is full of passive spectators that create a church like atmosphere that Mourino bemoans so much, as did Roy Keane before him.

Keep up the good work kid it would be great to see one day the South Stand full of boisterous, flag waving, colourful and noisy as hell young Boro fans.

After all it's what players and managers of all clubs crave - a powerful twelth man is good for the team on the pitch and by extension the fortunes of the club itself.

I wish somebody within the club would enlighten the security team at the club of this material fact, and remind them that they are stewarding a football match not a snooker tournament.

Most stewards are jobsworths. Good at causing aggravation when it isn't required but soon as they are needed to sort any genuine incident they are nearly always found sadly lacking ... see West Ham yesterday for a case in point.

Used to sit in block 17 in the North. 2 lads in particular always used to get the full block going. An oldish grey hsired bloke and a lad called Relphy. Atmosphere was superb in the North back then. The vast majority of the stadium is full of people that are too cool for school and refuse to let themselves go. Each to their own but there's nothing better than immersing yourself in fool blooded support of your team. arsenal at Old Trafford remains the greatest supporting spectacle I've ever witnessed. The oldish grey haired bloke was/is Mowbrays_Number_4 off this site and main man, in the Twe12thMan.

It was a somewhat different in those days, a bit more organic I would say, even if that does sound a little cheesey. The RF and 12th Man do us proud these days, without a doubt.

Yusuf keep it up!

Some clubs have a designated ‘singing section’. Glad we don’t have that as it’s all a bit cringeworthy. But the South stand should be stewarded the same way as that’s what it has become. Standing and singing should be the norm and the stewards should leave them to it. The prawn sandwich and flask brigade should move to the west stand if they don’t like it.

I could see Yusuf from block 69.
He was dancing about and generally encouraging people to join in the songs from a distance. He did this when most were singing anyway. Having a good time,
he was not putting any pressure on anybody.
South stand IS the singing section.
I am old enough to remember the Holgate in the 70's and 80's. I loved it at the time but looking back now it was very hostile and everything with a 'ist' at the end of it. Today it is good humoured and harmless by comparison.
Today there are too many farty pants that want to make the riverside a library and no fun. If you don't want to stand up and sing then don't go in the south stand and stop moaning.

As mentioned, the South is the new singing section. I'm guessing 90% go for the 'atmosphere' in that part, whether it be to join or just be atmosphere tourists.

Of course it's up to people what they do once they're in there but there are better seats in the stadium if you simply want to 'just see the game'.

Thanks for all the comments here and respect each and every one of them. I understand there is a line when supporting the club and try my best to support the lads. I dont force anybody to sing or abuse anybody.

The steward said to me "you can't be running up and down like that. Do that again and you're out"
So I replied: "why?"
To which he replied "you just can't now stay in your seat"
I then reply "but I am doing nothing wrong - I'm not invading the pitch or abusing any fans"
He then replies "i dont care now shut up and stay in your seat"
I then reluctantly say nothing and oblige to his wishes

Those in my row were shocked at the treatment but I didnt make a fuss. I continued to support the team without running up and down the bottom.

I have been told to complain to the club but will they actually do something or say the steward was right? I genuinely cant see what I did wrong that is deemed unnacceptable.

The stadium stewards are only trying to do their job. If people are allowed to freely do as they like we would most likely end up with much worst match day experience. Something more like those awful fans ruled match day experience.

I don't think people from our area would every allow other fans to bully them, as we see with some fans and clubs that are controlled by called so ultra groups at other clubs.

Thankfully we have never really had ultra style group at Boro.

All fans should try support there team as there wish to but within rules while trying not p*** your fellow fans off.

Clearly the former is totally unacceptable and as for the latter? well, what if you fell over and hurt yourself or someone else? There'd sharp be complaints then. If I was trying to watch the match and you were running backwards and forwards in front of me I'd be politely telling you stop I'm afraid. 'I have been told to complain to the club but will they actually do something or say the steward was right? I genuinely cant see what I did wrong that is deemed unnacceptable.'

Of course the steward was right, I think you'll find as part of your terms and conditions of entering the stadium are that you have purchased a seat in the stadium (to sit on) and watch a game of football in an 'all seater stadium'.

Nowhere in the small print does it say you're allowed to run up and down where you choose to during play to encourage supporters to get behind their team and leave the seat that you have paid to sit in? (or set off pyro as some supporters still choose to do!)

was it an MFC steward or one of those agency 'all events' fellas?
