Football league cup, semi final 1st leg. Boro 1 Man City 0,
I remember being in the holgate for this game & maybe through rose tinted glasses we absoutly battered em & could & should have scored 4 or 5 but only had a single goal from big John Hickton to show for it.
I came out of the ground convinced we were going to wembley, never heard of the gypsies curse then, or typical Boro, we were young & naive back then & the past didn't matter, it wouldn't happen to us [|)]

Boro team:
J.Platt, J.Craggs, I.Bailey, G.Souness, S.Boam, W.Maddren, P.Brine, D.Mills, J.Hickton, T.Cooper, D.Armstrong, sub, A.Foggon

Attendance: 34,579

We destroyed em 1-0 was an injustice. I was in the east end seats that night. The second leg was a joke we were poor and the weather didnt help. They had the wind behind both halves. It turned around 180 degreees at half time, incredible. Our coach got bricked not far from the ground too. It ws a cold journey over the pennines that night

Yep the 2nd leg was everything bad, from the weather to the players coach arriving at the ground, the preperations for such a big game were a farce, well we never done that again, everything small detail accounted for in future big games, oh wait 2016 play off final[|)]

Dont forget Leicester away when the players walked the last half mile in the snow as they didnt allow for forecast conditions and traffic

Coluka. That was unforseen. There was little snow in Leicester that day. I was there from midday, I couldn't believe how the city became gridlocked so quickly.

I was at St Micks at the time & we were talking about going on the coach, never happened mind, but looking back the coach should have taken the Boro team, theyd have gotten there quicker [sad]

all i remember from the away leg, apart from 4-0, is the City fans throwing handfuls of little silver washers at us.

i was at the game. aged 11. i came in early from football during the 2nd leg and switched the radio on and sat in utter disbelief.

we were convinced we were going to wembley on the coach coming back from the 1st leg.
really another lost opportunity as we would have played ncle in the final[cr][cr][cr][cr]
