I didn't realise HM finished his career at Greenock Morton. As my Morton v Boro programme shows he, spelt wrongly along with our No11, was in the lineup, he spent 12 months there, 75-76, playing 7 games & scoring one goal

they also had Neil McNab playing who i think went onto play for Spur and Man city and was a half decent midfielder.

btw do you know the score that day ?

Neil McNab played in the same Tranmere team as Steve Vickers. Thereby linking two very distinct Boro 'eras'.

What a terrific header of the ball he was.

Yes, he was. He could literally hang in the air, you know.

"Neil McNab played in the same Tranmere team as Steve Vickers."

That's great. I love that sort of stuff.

He lived in Leicester when he played for Boro - great header of the ball despite not being that tall

Is the John McNamee in the Morton team the same one as the John McNamee that played for Newcastle (including the Fairs Cup final in 1969)? It doesn't mention Morton in his Wiki entry but can't find any other John McNamee footballers from that era.

That John McNamee played in the §962/3 Scottish FA Cup Final (and the replay) for Celtic with one Bobby Murdoch of the parish.

Sure he lived in Carlisle(where we signed him from) and came over for games. Amazing header of a ball

I've just been through my old Rothmanses and it appears it is the same player. He moved from Blackburn to Morton where he didn't make an appearance before moving to Hartlepool

He was also decent with feet as Bobby Moore would have testified when Hughie gave him a torrid time when we beat WHU 2-1 in the F.A.cup 3rd round.I would go as far to say he was probably the best partner John Hickton played alongside in his Boro carear. As previously mentioned on here his performance in the 6=2 win v QPR was sensational.

IWell done that man, but only one Daintee winging its way towards you.

I was working at Ferguson's Shipyard in the 80'S whilst working for Smiths Dock. The yard isn't far from the ground and I had the delight of watching Morton play Dundee at Cappielow.

I have always described it as the worse game of football I have ever watched live.

When we signed HM from Carlise, he was still living in Leicester (who he had previously played for), so for half the week he stayed at the Boro hostel with apprentices.
Stan Anderson's insistence that he relocated to Teesside, and McIlmoyle's refusal to do so was apparently the reason he was sold back to Carlisle. This was untimely because we had just bought Johnny Vincent, who was proving to be a great provider of crosses from the left the way Hughie liked 'em.
