Press Conference today.

I went along. Will report later. I thought Garry Monk was pretty candid.
For all those questioning if these things are staged managed I stopped for the second part of the conference, with the newspaper reporters. This is the bit that is not broadcast online. I didn't see any evidence whatsoever of questions being prearranged and I didn't think anyone was ducking questions or answers.
I asked a couple of questions myself at the very end.
Whatever happens now won't be settled at a press conference but out on the pitch but there was nothing controlled or controlling in anyway today at Hurworth.

Is there anyone from MFC asking questions? A Gordon Cox type figure?

The players need to help the manager who had faith to bring them to the club and make a fortune at the same time. Braithwaite, Howsom and Assambalonga and co time to repay the big transfer fees.

Fait play Rob, but my point still stands in that the club only shows the part of these that they want people to see.

Also, every 'media conference' that I've seen on the official website or social media it's always the same person asking questions. So whether or not you or anyone else not directly employed by MFC are asking questions they don't show them. The Gazette, as the main mouthpiece of the club for many years, no longer attends so a large number of people aren't seeing what is being said, certainly what hasn't been approved by MFC. That cannot be right.

"Photographs, ey?", he asked him knowingly? Photography? Snap snap, grin grin, wink wink, nudge nudge, say no more? Holiday snaps, eh? They could be, they could be taken on holiday. Candid, you know, CANDID photography?

uncle - what they show live every week are the questions asked for tv.
They can't show the newspaper guys because .. no one would buy their papers. It hasn't changed in that respect.

Monk said if it wasnít for loyal and knowledgeable supporters like Epiphany Proudfoot then you wouldnít see him for dust.

He also berated the supported who keep leaving before the end. He said he can see them sneaking out.

He concluded that the region was a warm and friendly place, despite its reputation for parmos and trouser coughs.

"what they show live every week are the questions asked for tv."

But its the same person asking the questions every week. I have never heard anyone else ask a question in one of these media conferences, nor have I seen anything printed in any newspaper or shown on TV that wasn't asked by this same person.

Rob, I appreciate that in your position you have to be careful what you say, but the censorship the club have place on the media isn't right.

It would just be nice to hear him be put on the spot and have to answer s difficult question, like...

- why did you say Downing had no future at the club and now he's the first name on the teamsheet?
- why isn't Bamford getting a look in when he started the season well and we are currently clearly lacking pace and creativity.

There are so many, yet he hasn't ad to face one. He has had such an easy ride its unbelievable.

he was candid saying a lot of work is done on the training pitch.
If certain players aint performing in training why should he pick them, he sounded as frustrated as we are looking for a big performance this weekend against a tough Ipswich side

Uncle Rico, don't think those are particularly difficult questions and they would certainly be asked if we were in the Premier League by the sky brigade? Monk might not give insightful answers, but I would be surprised if those kind of footballing questions were vetted.

Nothing is vetted. The proof will be that you won't have seen my 2 questions or answers before.
I haven't seen the live press conference. Is it from the actual press room or is it a pre conference he does beforehand with someone from the club's media department.
Either way I sat amongst journalists free to ask whatever they wanted. Remember they are looking for sound bites. Especially tv they might interview him for 5 minutes but they are probably looking for what 15 or 20 seconds tv.

As someone pointed out, he never says Middlesbrough, he says the group or of similar lines.

Prob a minor thing but something psychological in it I reckon.

You would be asking the wrong person about Steve Agnew, surely. It won't have anything to do with Garry Monk whether Steve Agnew is or isn't on gardening leave.
As to Guiedeira - I can never remember his name. But it is quite obvious that he is not part of his plans.

The press conference thatís on Facebook and the official website is the one where itís the one same person asking the same mundane questions each week.

Iíd love to know where you can watch this other press conference you were at Rob, where you asked two questions? As Iíve never seen it anywhere.

Just out of interest, has he ever been asked any testing questions at that PC, for example has he ever been asked about Downing, Bamford, Shotton, Fletcher, Clayton, Guedioura etc? These are the questions weíre all asking but donít appear to ever get asked of him.

I really hope that Monk improves the Boro's success rate very quickly because I cannot see Steve Gibson making any chances in the near future.

Having Johnson take the dead ball kicks was not a move that earned a great deal of praise in the diabolical performance at Bristol so let's hope sanity returns to team planning for the Ipswich game. Best of luck. [sad]

What do people think is the purpose of a pre match press conference?

Itís surely to ask questions relating to the upcoming game.

Itís hardly going to be a public performance appraisal of the manager is it?

Gary, why is the season going so badly?
Do you think you and the team are underperforming?
Why are Wolves and Cardiff doing so much better?
Why do you pick Johnson when he looks out of his depth?
In fact why did you buy him?
Why did you put Adama on the wrong wing?
Why is Braithwaite so anonymous?
Can you motivate the players?

These are questions the chairman needs to ask, not a few journos from the Manchester based Gazette.

You know, if you think you are going to get this sort of thing in public you are in cuckoo land.

Rob if we continue as we are I canít see Monk surviving although I hope he does as he is a decent fella. The derby defeat was a turning point and I have never seen so many fans leave after the 3rd goal, a replay of that and I see no way back. The Ipswich game is one simply Monk cannot afford to lose.

I posted recently that either the questions are vetted, or the journos are unbelievably poor.

You say the questions aren't vetted Rob..

Uncle Rico and Holgate Corner both ask obvious questions that I don't see pitched or answered. I'm not saying they are the only ones, but given what gets reported there must be some lame/tame questions being offered up.
