Root = deluded 'still massively in the series'

still massively in the series ; yeah ; to avoid going massively down 5-0.

Stokes should have gone to Australia with the Ashes squad.
Innocent till proven guilty used to be the British way. It's a professional game...the ECB should have said stuff the press, stuff the armchair politicians, stuff the safety first brigade, stuff sensibilities. Take our BEST squad. When the plane took off, he hadn't been charged and still hasn't. Our best ballsiest player left at home.

Only in England always operating under the 'queensbury' rules...while Australia operate under their own set of rules...
imagine Australia doing this to their best player who hasn't even been charged.

Really - we english are so naive

It's just bizarre to claim he's "deluded".

He clearly can't say "it's over" it would be unprofessional and inappropriate for a captain to say, especially when fans travel to the other side of the world to watch it. He'll be perfectly aware of the difficulty of the task, and how poor we've been.

Wilko - why isnt he saying that then 'look, we've not been good enough so far'

We have had spells where we have competed but 'spells' dont win test matches.

I'd have a bit more respect if he came out and said it as it is - thats not inappropriate or unprofessional its just stating fact without drama. We havent been good enough. period. We must do better if we want to Win a test.

He did say they'd not been good enough. He said he was disappointed with the batting and bowling. What more do you want him to say?

Pathetic OP.

You don't remember Warner being suspended for "allegedly" punching Joe Root?

Hard ; very well 'scripted' there (for what root said) you plonker.

Root actually also said ; I have seen us compete for 2 days of these tests which tells me we are good enough ; eh ? no it doesn't. It tells us for 2 tests in a row in a massive series we couldn't compete for 5 days and therefore why we are 2-0 down to an average Aussie side (which makes this worse)
competing for two days tells him 'we are good enough - i've seen the signs' sorry - deluded.
He should be saying. 2 days isnt enough; being good enough is competing for 5 days.

Truth is poor root is like a rabbit in the headlights bless him...he shouldnt be burdened with all this captain stuff in the first place. shambles from ECB and stokes should be there - our main man.

pathetic 4th Post.

Haha, you come out with boll_ox like that and call me a plonker. You're an idiot fella, who can't even do a tiny bit of research before posting utter nonsense.
Stop listening to talksport and come up with your own views and opinions.

Whether or not you like what he's said has no bearing on your somewhat dubious claim that he's deluded.

theres still a chance now our bowlers are realising what length they need to bowl.

We have not won in Perth for decades. I dont see that changing anytime soon. However, Root was honest enough I thought. We have got it in us to compete. Like the Boro, the players are lacking consistency. The bowling shows that as much as the batting concerns.

Wow... What an angry choont [:D]

We have the ability but not the application therefore overall we haven't been good enough which is what he should be saying.

However what a captain says after a match shouldn't define one having to get their back up [:D]

It doesn't matter what they say, it's what they do that counts.

Also, when Moyes commented on how poor Sunderland were he was heavily castigated.

What Geoff Boycott is saying, [see link] and after watching most of the first two tests, I reluctantly agree with him, is simply that Australia are better. At one end, Nathan Lyon has more or less bamboozled England's batters, while at the other, you have intimidating pace.

There's talk of Mark Wood making an appearance. He's quick and might make a difference, but Moeen Ali still can't get either turn or bounce.

Prospects don't look good.

I don't think there has been much in it at times. I think it's probably the poorest 2 ashes sides in years.

The fact is Australian hardly ever lose at home. The pitch is set up to assist the pace and bounce of the quick men (as we set it up for swing). Also the issue with lyon being so good is we have 5 left handers who he thrives on bowling too (think 10 of his 11 wickets).

We are clearly missing Stokes who is probably the best all rounder in the world... So yes you'd miss him. Also it's hardly mentioned but Finn is a miss as well as a genuine fast bowler.

I think the series is pretty gone but I hope we will go down with a fight and some grit.

OP clearly lives on another planet but the premise that we miss Stokes is wrong.

The convicts would have found him out in his batting as we know he canít handle the fast short pitched ball and his bowling is nothing great, he just bangs it in short of a length which the convict batters love.

Poor ashes squad which was based on poor selections leading up to the ashes squad.

We are a very weak test team away from home at the moment, inexperienced and simply not good enough batting line up with a bowling line up lacking any really pace and spin. Itís not a good recipe for victory.

"Stokes should have gone to Australia with the Ashes squad.
Innocent till proven guilty used to be the British way."
-----

Except he's clearly not innocent.

It's not one person's word against another. He was caught on camera laying into a bloke who didn't even attempt to throw a punch back and obviously didn't want to fight.

Should be considered for a prison cell before the Ashes squad.

RC92 ; I wouldnt like to be in front of you as a judge....honestly, some of the british people have absolutely zero ability to remain objective about certain aspects of life.

WE DIDNT KNOW THE FULL CIRCUMSTANCES OF THE SITUATION WITH STOKES - CAMERAS CAN TELL ONE STORY BUT THERE IS ALWAYS TWO SIDES TO A STORY !

Didn't your mother teach you that from age 5 up over ?
Jesus...
Objective means (because I know you'll be thinking 'what does that mean') ''not influenced by personal feelings or opinions when looking at the facts''

Reasonable force, that's a thing.

Acceptable to put that to one side as long as he can he help in the Ashes though, yeah?

There was nothing reasonable about Stokesí behaviour.
It was a sustained attack on somone who did not retaliate. People around Stokes can clearly heard pleading with him to stop. However he had clearly lost it by then and could not stop. He has clear anger issues that he should be trying to get under control.

He is rightly going to miss the Ashes and it is his own fault entirely.

In the coming months Stokes may have far greater concerns than missing the Ashes.

Real shame because he could only have improved us on the field.

Shock horror, England in trouble in an Ashes series in Australia.

Whatís new? They usually beat us over there as you would expect when the conditions suit them perfectly.

As for Stokes, some things are bigger than winning a game of cricket, he is under a criminal investigation for punching somebody in the street. There is an argument in my view that just for being involved in that sort of incident he should never play for England again.

And Joe Root? Do you seriously expect him to come out and say we might as well get the next plane home? That would go down well with the sponsors, the TV companies and anybody whoís bought a ticket for the other 3 tests wouldnít it? You always play to win until itís impossible, thatís the sign of a good captain.

Itís like the iother diots on here who expect Monk to go to a press conference and say heís doing a shxt job.
