Horrible.

Add it to the fires we had in Napa and Sonoma and entire sections of Northern California earlier this year, killing 44 people, and California has had a pretty rough year.

We've had the fires in the Bay area Buddah, and it never made it as far as the city, although it did make it as far as Marin which is only over the bridge and the air quality was terrible for a few weeks.

If it made is as far as SF then it would probably be the worst disaster in world history, if it made it 500 miles form where it is today and would wipe out most of Silicon Valley.

Where does she eventually end up living in the city, just out of interest ?

Didn't San Francisco have these fires only a few months back?

It wouldnít get to SF as itís in the peninsula. Absolutely zero chance of it happening.

Hopefully sheís north of Berkeley and not south of it in Oakland (although the border of Oakland and Berkeley is fine). East bay is OK but the only problem is the lack of 24 hour BART coverage to SF. Iíve got a taxi across the bridge at 4am in the morning before to watch the Boro play in Mad Dog...

That is scary. Heard the winds weren't as bad as predicted so hope they can get the fires under control. Stay safe you guys out there.

Bushfires are truly terrifying. I had no idea they travelled at 80 mph+, sometimes you can't even out-drive them.

A friend of mine lost her holiday house in a huge bushfire last Christmas on the Great Ocean Road near Melbourne, a town called Wye River. I'd stayed there before, it was a little Scandinavian-style ocean house set on the hill with panoramic sea views, so beautiful. The fire was burning for days, came from inland and just torched much of the little town. The residents who were there had to wade half a metre out in the inlet and wait it out overnight. So scary.

Have been to a few places where fires have happened, very spooky with blackened trees and scorched earth. Was working in the country one day when a fire was visible in the distance and we had to have a short wave radio to get updates from the fire service. When you get a run of 40 degree plus days there's vast areas of land out there that are just a tinderbox.

One property had a shipping crate in which the owner had locked all their possessions when a fire came through. Can you imagine.

The big one in Australia incinerated villages and those living there very quickly. I watched a documentary on it and as mentioned, the speed it moved at was unimaginable.

"Didn't San Francisco have these fires only a few months back?"

No, they got fairly close to the city (Marin & the East Bay) but never actually made it to the city. As I said above the worst SF got was poorer air quality than Beijing for a few weeks.

still burning....and growing.

the fire is now as large as the city of New York.

even with and drone use, how do you tackle a fire of that scale? - they don't have enough water readily available, do they ?
