Best place to buy a suitcase for holiday?

Looking for a 20k as big as possible suitcase. Last one blew up. What are the most reputable makes, looking to spend about £50 for a good quality one that will last, would like it to be lightweight (not the plastic clan design ones that you always see split open at airports)

I get mine for work (they lead a rough life - planes, boats and trains) from the Antler outlet shop at Dalton Park off the A19.

If your looking to spend ariund that much then the Tripp suitcases at Debenhams are pretty good quality at that price point.

Depending on the size you are buying They are quite often discounted from the original price of £100+ to about £50 ish.

Also I would recommend getting a 4 wheeler suitcase as they are so much easier to manoeuvre than the standard 2 wheelers.

Seconding hard shell Tripp, although they are permanently discounted somewhere be it Debenhams or their own website, so ignore the feeling of saving a load from RRP!

Had the blue one 2 years and itís in good condition, loads of space, compartments, various sizes available but as above I got the £50 one. Good wheels, TSA approved locks so can take it to the US etc. No downsides really!

Each type has their issues. Suitcases get thrown about though as we know by baggage handlers, they are not cared for. Material suitcases have some give hard shell do not. You generally do get what you pay for and I find Antler make very good strong cases to last, but they are not cheap

I've always bought Antler and they've tended to last well. Somewhere normally has them in the sale, I got the last lot in House of Fraser at 50% off RRP.

My Tripp Cass paid for itself after holiday in May with families parents to Mallorca. On return Ryan air flight, when the bags came out 3 of the 6 bags had slashes and tears in them where it had gotten caught on something. My Tripp has a scratch on it and nothing more. Ryanair donít replace the baggage they offer replacement from a set of the ugliest luggage going so her family didnít even bother. Needless to say theyíve since all bought the same one as me in different colours.

Hard shell do weigh more but definitely more secure, and a tsa approves lock is a must for any USA travel else they will break into your bag.

4 wheels miles better than 2. You can drag it the usual way or upright, which often feels easier.

And yes, the TSA in America will break open any case they want to search. A TSA lock lets them use a master key to open it. The Tripp ones use a 3 digit combo lock with a TSA key slot. Quite efficient, the lock is fixed so while people can do the biro trick to open it, they canít reseal it again by moving the locked-together keys all the way round so you would immediately know as your case is open, thereís easier pickings to be had with less chance of being caught.

Hopeso - security - they open a relatively large percentage of bags compared to others, and a re prepared to do whatever damage is needed if you don't have an approved lock.

Can they break your bag after customs to check? Why can't they just use the zip?

We had Tripp cases for 3 years (Debenhams) on our last trip to Florida the handle on one case ripped through the fabric and a wheel came off the other. They were in a sale but still not cheap models so as replacements we've bought Antler off the sale outlet on their website.

Free delivery, look robust and very nice range of sizes, styles and colours (with TSA locks)

Best place to buy a suitcase for holiday?

From wiki

In the United States the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) requires access to luggage without the passenger being present; to allow travelers to lock their luggage they have accepted certain locks which they can open and relock.[2] The TSA recommend[3] that TSA accepted locks be used, as luggage locked using other methods must be opened by force in order to be inspected.

Luggage locks accepted by the TSA can be opened by the authorities using publicly known universal "master" keys.[4] Locks using this system are produced to meet standards set by Travel Sentry. Under agreement with the TSA, it is Travel Sentry that sets the standards for these locks and approves each design. Every lock with the Travel Sentry identifying mark (red diamond) is accepted by the TSA.

Some TSA accepted locks feature an indicator which will appear red if opened by a master key, so the owner will know that their bag has been accessed.[5]

Also if your zips arenít held in place by a fixed position lock on your case, take a look at the below video for how easy it is to get robbed.

Yes but you will know immediately you have been robbed when your case is ripped open. Most luggage thefts are crimes if opportunity, if they can Joem it, steal something and leave it undetected until potentially hours later when youíre home / at the hotel youíve got a much smaller change of tracking down the items / culprit. Not many luggage items are totally secure but Iíd much rather have one that canít be opened with a free pen and then perfectly sealed again.

wilkos_perm - I did exactly the same mate! Bought an Antler (soft material type) at 50% off, recently in House of Fraser (although it was the one down here in Bournemouth). Also, bought a little cabin bag sized one (hard case) for my daughter, at the same time. Different make (it was called 'Revelation') - but got them both in a bright blue colour, so nice and easy to spot.

Although - just looked on HOF website and mines not on there. Everything Antler is at least £90. I paid about £70 for our two cases in total.

Hopeso, it possible to not lock your front door and not get robbed blind. It doesnít mean itís a good idea [^]

Most times you wonít suffer theft from suitcases, locked or no, but it happens and it happens a lot. Not having any locks and an easily opens case means if itís foonf to happen theyíre going to see that as low hanging fruit. Also worth checking your insurance terms.
