Wolves being promised endless cash. Would u like that@ Boro?

Basically their owners have told the manager he can have what he wants to make them in to a champions league team. Whether they have the same manager in a few years, we’ll that could change.

Do you feel we are getting left behind or are you happy with our standing in the football world?

There's been plenty owners temporarily pumping money into clubs in the championship in recent years to no avail. Lets see what happens at Wolves first.
For clubs like us it's got to be about spotting talent and thoughtful recruitment like the likes of Southampton, Swansea (less so last couple of years) and Watford have done.

Don't think there is any downside now to having someone spend stupid amounts of cash on your club. The war is lost football is a business with customers.

I always preferred battling Boro under Ricoh than big spending Boro under Robson.

I appreciate that I’ve had the chance to appreciate both, but I prefer being the underdog.

problem is. there are only 4 places for the champions league anyway and the clubs in them are pumping near enough endless cash in now in the pursuit of qualifying again next year

Aren't the Chinese government starting to restrict the money all these billionaire owners can spend outside of the country?

They'll get sick of spending it when Wolves don't become an established Champions League team.

There's only so many slots, and plenty of clubs have billionaires with the exact same ambitions.

Not fussed, I'm happy with who we have as an owner.

Time some of these super-rich clubs cleared off and formed this Euro League they keep threatening the rest of us with. I couldn't care less. I'll carry on supporting my local team whatever division they're playing in.

If we had endless cash I'd like to see it invested in infrastructure, improvements to the stadium, better matchday parking schemes, community projects, a better matchday experience in general, free away coaches, cheaper tickets, etc.

“Time some of these super-rich clubs cleared off and formed this Euro League they keep threatening the rest of us with. ”

I wouldn’t give them the choice. The other 86 clubs should form their own league structure. They can have a super league if they like, or they can join our new league on our financial terms.

What would be the point in having "endless" cash if you can't spend it?

Any club outside of London and Manchester is going to struggle to attract world class players regardless of the money they offer. Does anyone really think if Wolves offered £200m+ for Neymar, Messi, Bale, Ronaldo, Hazard, Suarez and so on that any of those players would want to join Wolves (or Boro)? Even Man City with their riches haven't been able to tempt players from the very top table and PSG had to double the world record to get Neymar and pay him £700,000 a week, but at least Paris is a major city and somewhere people aspire to live. No matter how nice Yarm is perceived to be locally, I doubt wages of £1m a week would get Neymar to move here in his prime!

Obviously Wolves owners are ambitious and have deep pockets, but after this statement, if they do get promoted they'll end up paying £40m-£50m each time they want a mid table player (see Everton/Siggurdson) and it'll cost them £400m just to finish 7th. Even if they then have the stomach to keep spending, I really don't see them being able to attract the stars to compete with the established elite.

I don’t think Manchester itself is much of a draw to the world elite.

Ok , Utd have a certain glamour and profile that will attract, but it is despite, not because of the city.

City themselves have no difficulty attracting players. Is that not mostly down to £££

WillMunny hit the nail on the head. They can have all the money they like, they still won't be able to attract the calibre of players needed to get to the Champions League. They'll struggle to attract players good enough to keep them in the league.

Don't think there is any downside ?

What about when the owners pull out and a club is left with a high earning squad and runs into fair play rule problems ?

I'd rather see Boro living within their means under an "average millionaire " who is actually a fan of the club, rather than start the point deduction cycle and downward plummet as a few clubs have done.

FrozenHorse, I agree that Manchester as a city isn't necessarily a draw in itself, but it is a major city with two world famous clubs and it's almost next door to another world famous club. So anyone approached by Utd/City/Liverpool will know who those clubs are and that they're probably going to be living in the same affluent area as existing players from those clubs. Aside from the £££, I think that is why City were able to attract decent players when they won the Etihad lottery. That being said, all 3 of the clubs mentioned are at a general disadvantage to Chelsea/arsenal/Spurs as overseas players prefer London.

As for Wolverhampton or Boro, the point still stands that regardless of the cash on offer, not many top players would choose those teams over the 6 London/North West elite clubs. I therefore think that Wolves have no chance of becoming an established Champions League team regardless of what their owners are prepared to spend.

I hope they enjoy the ride. The Derby, Forest and Blackburn fans did when they had the best sides in the country, and why shouldn't they?

Sure they're nowhere near now but so what, the game was better when they were able to compete.

As for the Boro, well we're just asking entrance money as if we were at the top.

We will never get to that standard even if we had the money.
Our recruiters are negligent and our owner not ruthless enough with his managers when they are clearly not up to it.

There is no reason why a club like Wolves can’t attract top players.

It is all about the money.

This ‘brand image’ nonesense is pedalled by the current top clubs to try to gain an advantage and not let anybody else get a toe hold.

Twenty years ago Chelsea and Man City were in the shadow of the old money of Man U, Liverpool and arsenal. That soon changed when a few billions got pumped in.

Anybody can build a team if they are prepared to pay for it.

FrozenHorse - I wouldn't have a problem with that either! Their greed knows no bounds! As has already been mentioned, these things change. When the PL was formed in 1992, Everton were one of the big 5 and Chelsea and Man City were nowhere to be seen!

Left behind? We spent over 40mil in the summer so I think we have to be grateful.

You look how well Cardiff and Sheffield utd have spent (basically nothing) and it proves that a good team ethic and organisation means you can get more out the a squad. You can actually unbalance a side by spending big.

That said it is more relivent in the prem. If you go up then you have to spend and spend well. I was suprised how little we spent last year based on how long it took us to go up. Also in hindsite the signings were frankly woeful and added nothing to a dressing room that was good. They caused divides with players who won us promotion.

We are spending more than enough to get promoted. I don't overly see many new players coming in. I would expect more going out really.

"Manchester United are well known; Manchester is not.

Nah, I'm pretty sure Manchester is a fairly well known city, as far as non-capital cities go.
Even if just for the music scene.
3rd most visited city in the UK, after London and Edinburgh, even if a good number of those visits are probably for the football, the visitors will probably be aware they're in Manchester not London.

Even for the divvies that think it's in London, having the word Manchester in the name Manchester City was going to bring recognition because of the similarities with Manchester United.

All Wolverhampton has got is that you can shorten the name to Wolves, which is marketable.

Stereo I appreciate that Fosun are a massive Chinese conglomerate and own multi sector global business. What I haven’t found is the comment by the Fosun Board that they I’ll pour “endless” cash into the Club to make them into a CL force ? £27m was spent in the Summer which is comparably huge for the Championship but is it assumed these chaps will continue to spend massive sums or is it a Company strategy?

From what I remember of Gerry Daly he'd only just about be worth what wolves paid for him if the price was the same today after 35 years of inflation!
