Football Manager 2018

Anyone bought the game? Boro are class on it. My first season in charge I gained promotion with 96 points and won the FA cup.

I play 5-3-2 with wing backs, and Britt alongside Braithwaite up front. Scored over 40 goals between them. Signed Jerome Roussillon who is LWB for £4m and he's proven to be a bargain buy.

Itís still a great game but Iím starting to think itís almost getting too complicated. Things like the player social groups and squad dynamics. Itís almost become more detailed than real life.

The man management side of it is also hard. I've just put a bid in for Ross Barkley and Leadbitter is worried he'll lose his place. Tried to pacify him by saying he was still a huge part of my plans but I can see him complaining early on into the season when I'm not picking him.

He's good to have as backup to be fair. Chipped in with a few goals when he's had the chance. He's above Fletcher in the pecking order [;)]

You're doing better than me. I'm struggling to hold onto second spot. I'm insistent on playing traore in hope he lives up to his potential so have been persisting with wingers, not dominated any matches yet.

Traore isn't great on the game. He's a decent enough impact sub though. If I struggled in a particular game I switched to 4-2-3-1, brought him on and set the instructions to "dribble more".

A little tip......if you go a few games without a win, arrange a friendly match with a nearby team a few days before your next league game. You'll hammer them 5-0 and the players morale will all be "excellent". You'll then very likely win the following league game and go on a run. Always works a charm for me and ensures I never go too long without winning.

Also, always look to start players who are facing their former club. Bamford was backup for me all season, but when I faced Derby and Norwich I started him in both games and he put in motm performances. It always comes up in the commentary "he's come back to haunt his former club".

Haven't played Footy manager for about 8 years now.

I lived on it too, but stopped when my laptop started to slow down cos the sheer volume of memory FM needed to use.

Is it still the same - regarding size of memory needed on a computer? Or can you just stream it off Steam and save your game on Steam?

I fancy getting back into it again.

I know there's a cheaper version off the app store for iPhones/iPads etc, but it won't be the same.

Love this game, been playing it since 1999.

I'm on FM2017 at the moment. Boro in the Premier League. I signed Batshuayi from Chelsea, got him and Britt playing up front and scoring for fun in a 4-4-2. 12 games, 3rd in the league, but just got hammered 8-1 away by United, which hurt.

I have the iPad version 'FM17 Touch', its just the main games but slimmed down. Runs off the same match engine, just don't have do as much as the tedious stuff on the full game.

If you been out for 8 years might be worth going for that one.

Was going to ask about the Touch version Gaz. I know 2018 isn't out yet but wasn't sure of the quality and playability of the 2017 versions.

What sort of stuff does it not have that the PC version has?

If you play as the Boro then presumably Monk gets sacked before you take over - where does he end up?

I wish there was an alternative to FM (maybe there is?)

I want to enjoy FM but I generally don't. (I've only played the 'touch' versions in recent years).

My main frustration is the lack of transparency between your choices and the outcomes. You have hundreds of options to pick from (combinations of formations, personnel, tactics, etc.) and then you get an outcome (the results). But were you just unlucky/lucky or did you make good/bad decisions? You don't really know.

I wish there was something that is more fun and less of a time commitment. I'd gladly sacrifice realism.

Stupid question about FM:

I have an old version (can't remember which one, think it's 2015) which I never took out of its box. It's brand new. Is there a way to either automatically or manually update it so it has all the most recent squads and I can start playing it now, or have I lost my chance?

I still dip into Champ Man 01-02 now and again. You can download it for free, there's a team of volunteers keeping the database up-to-date and you can play through it really quickly.

I just bought fm17 tonight off cd keys for a tenner. Put the code in steam and off you go.

Also to update there was a transfer update in the workshop section in steam so back in championship with braithwaite etc. I'm guessing there are similar updates for older steam games.

I've recently started play Champ Man 03/04 again. What a game that is.
Also continued some saves on FM's 10, 11 and 12. Started to get a little complicated after that.
