Do you Queue Early for Flights?

If you do can you please explain the logic as I don't understand must be 60 people queuing for an easyJet flight I'm waiting for, best part of an hour before it's due

It's the same when a plane lands. Why do people stand up the minute the seat belt light comes on.

The quicker you get on the longer you have to sit there while everyone else gets on and faffs with their seat/luggage.

I reckon its the luggage thing. On long haul it doesn't happen as there are always plenty of space in the overhead storage lockers. On these short haul flights everybody packs them and you can see the stress this causes those who have to find an inch of space

I always like to be places early. That includes being at the gate in good time. I even did that when flying 4 times a week a few years ago.

If there is a family or a few of you in a group it makes sense to queue early so you can all get seats together.

You can't just sit where you like!!

It is perfectly sensible.

1 The plane might take off without me.

2 I can sit one of my family in an undesignated seat so we are all together and just stand back and laugh as the knock on effect leaves people in a complete dither when they find their seat occupied until the stewardess gives up trying to get people seated in the right seats.

3 I get to listen to all the gossip in the queue regarding the very safety of flying in the first place and a very informed opinion of the weather at the destination.

4 I know my carryon luggage will be close to me so that the instant the seat belt light goes off I can get up there and take something vital out for the rest of the flight.

5 The bag will not be exactly where I left it due to others putting bags on, so I can make a big noise about it.

6 get the window seat as that annoys the people who have asked for a window seat.

So its simple really.

If itís a Ryanair flight the first X amount of passengers can take carryon bags on board , after which they may be asked to stow them in the hold, so can understand for that.

Don't pay for a checked bag. If the flight is looking busy I'll queue to get my hand luggage in an overhead, I'm tall and don't want it at my feet.

If Iím on a window seat Iíll queue a bit earlier so Iím not disrupting people who are already sat down if Iím on the aisle Iím quite happy to wait till the end, hand luggage always fits under my seat so no problem that way.

All airlines have allocated seating now, so the rush to sit together which made sense has now been eliminated think it was about 2012/13 that Ryanair were the last to stop it.

Every passenger has a seat allocated, may as well wait till last on a short haul as I put my bag at my feet, easy access for my lappy etc. If asked to put it in the hold I refuse. Why should I pay extra to do it with a larger bag and do it for free for them. Plus baggage handlers are not to be trusted, seen the result at first hand.

When the notification comes up on my flight to go to the gate I translate that as last orders at the bar, because I will inevitably just be stood there for 45 minutes doing sod all waiting to board

Always one of the last half dozen on, the art is timing it so you stroll onboard and are not stood waiting and sweating on the air-stair.

I never rush to get on a plane as I always book seats and I donít mind being last off if Iíve got hold luggage as it means I donít have to wait so long at the carousel. I do like to get my luggage checked in and through security early though so that I have plenty of time to eat and relax with a few drinks.

Whatís more annoying though, those that queue early or those that get on last minute with shopping bags and hats and spend what seems like ages messing about trying to find space in the overhead lockers for their various bits....usually with an air of indignation and utter regard for the rest of the flight their actions are delaying.

I have two boys, now 6 and 4, I wait as long as possible before getting in the que - the less time they have to be sat still/entertained, the better

I never queue early.

As a previous poster has said, as soon as the gate opens, I class that as last orders at the bar.

I've even waited 30 mins before I've walked to the gate, and I've still found myself queuing to board.

im a fu.cker for getting there as late as possible.

i nearly got caught out twice at schipol last year because i was sitting in the lounge not realising how faraway the gate was. i got some really bad looks once onboard. [:D]

once in the us, as plane i was booked on left 20mins early while i was getting pished in a bar just 50m away.
i had to stay over that night - the airline paid, obviously.

You can only join the queue late because people join the queue earlier else you wouldn't be able to be joining it late as everyone would be doing the same thing.

We were on a Ryanair flight a while back where people queued for over an hour at the gate before the plane even arrived. Presumably they realised the situation as you could clearly see there was no plane at the end of the tunnel. We sat in the cafť opposite and just joined 90 mins later. Couldn't comprehend what people were doing.

Iíd like to think Iím quite a relaxed person, but airports seem to change that!

Security.
1. Despite numerous signs and as is often the case verbal instructions on what you need to remove from your person or your bag. Thereís always a decent number of people who seem to think that the X-ray machine/ metal detector wonít pick up the items theyíve left in their bag or pockets.
2. The people who get their bag through the machine then decide to re pack and re dress right at the exit of the machine, meaning the operator cannot push anymore bags through until theyíve moved, leaving everyone else waiting for them!

Boarding.
1. ďWe are now boarding those who need assistance and then rows 1 through 20Ē followed by the inevitable scrum of people round the gate half of whom are seated further down the plane
2. The people who immediately after going through the door start to scrutinise every row number against their boarding pass, despite the fact theyíre in row 99.

Flying.
1. People who cannot walk down the aisle without grabbing the headrest of every seat on their route, waking up those who are sleeping, spilling peoples drinks etc.
2. People who wait until the drinks trollies are setting off from each end of the plane, before deciding to get up and head to the toilet, meaning the cabin crew have to reverse the trolley back down to the galley.

Landing.
1. People who clap on landing.
2. People who the minute the back wheels touch tarmac undo their seat belt, despite the fact that the plane has a large distance to travel to the gate, the stairs or air bridge are not ready, and the doors not f**kin open!

Arrivals.
Assumingly able people who usually have two baggage trolleys who decide to park both of them along the length of the carousel whilst waiting for their cases meaning no one else can get in!

I need to buy a static caravan!!! [:D]
