Jonny Barstow on his Dad

He's an incredible guy. I met him with my son on the first day of the Cape Town test, and he had a photo with my lad. He's proven doubters wrong and quietly got better and better with every series. One of the best in the world now, and that's mainly down to determination and hard work. Of course, he had it in his genes. I always though his Dad was much older when he passed.

Jonny Barstow on his Dad

I met his dad quite a few times and, as expected, he was a great fella too.
Jonny started doing a bit of what young lads do around his early 20's but has certainly re focussed and has grown into a great player.
I'm pretty sure the memory of their financial state has had a huge bearing on him. He is so, so careful with money. Has chosen to build up a property portfolio rather than spend on daft stuff.
He saves his extravagances for his mum and sis.

His mum is one of the loveliest people I've ever met.

Jonny Barstow on his Dad

A very good article.

He's found some great form this year.

Really pleased for the lad, seems a genuine good guy.

I used to love watching his Dad play, at Acklam Park, Scarborough and Headingley. He was such a belligerent and enthusiastic player and would have had a lot more England Caps had he not been of the same era as Alan Knott.

I always thought he was actually a better wicky than Knott, personally, although Knott was easily the better batsman of the two even if 'Bluey' *was* capable of decent - and entertaining - knocks from time to time.
