Highway robbery
Just had a text from HMRC telling me about a tax rebate with a web address to click on.Was aware of phishing scams via e-mails but not via texts.Obviously knew my name and cell phone number, dunno how.
HMRC give a phone number an 09 number---£3+ a minute.Don't know who are the biggest crooks.Didn't ring just deleted it.

I'm confused, but if you're saying that HMRC have an 09 premium rate number ... they don't. All HMRC numbers start with 0300 and are charged the same as a geographic number.

There's been a few high profile data leaks over the last few years. It's very common for data to be out there for anyone to do whatever they want with it.

That can show you some examples where the data might have been taken from.

It does sound like you've fallen for a phishing scam.
