Ben Gibson

I think he is on his way not sure were one of the lads at the Chesterfield game over in Portugal shouted to Ben are you staying? .... he just smiled but definitely gave you the impression he is off, shame really but he is destined for a big money move.

I agree, deadline day to Spurs or Southampton, maybe even arsenal or Chelsea if he is very lucky. [^]

32M is my guesstimate

If he is off where is his replacement?

The club would need to make a new CB number 1 priority but so far nothing.

I think it would take a top 6 team to temp him away. I dont see those teams in for him at this stage.

We don't need to sell. Prob only be likes of Stoke, West Brom, the mags etc who while have loads of cash aren't going to temp gibbo to leave the club he loves.

I agree. Without Gibson, all we've got at CB is Ayala (injury prone), Baptiste (unproven) and Fry (exciting but inexperienced). That's a soft underbelly in what's otherwise looking like an imperious squad.

If Gibson had sulked in response to the question, what would the conclusion have been?
Staying or going?

"other than to a top club why would he move?"

to play in the premier league, at least double his salary, improve his cahnces of being in the england squad and if he does really well again he might get another bigger move

Or sit on the bench for 30+ games and get the occasional run out in the League Cup.

His agent wants to push him to Spurs, but they're 'dragging their feet'. Leicester & Stoke the only teams to have interest at the moment.

Fry inexperienced? Gibson was probably even more inexperienced when he broke into the team. Fry could partner Gibson/Ayala now and wouldn't look out of place.

I hope we're targeting a proper replacement for Ben.

Be a nightmare losing him on deadline day with no one to replace him. We are light in other areas too i think, Ayala is injury prone and has had a poor season the one just gone.

We have no assurances over whether he is staying or going either. As encouraging as it is with us signing so many good players in forward areas, i think we need to get working on defensive players because i'm a bit concerned as it stands.

has any clubs put a bid in yet. a few defenders have moved clusb and chamber seems the latest one with palace looking to sign him.

bookies have him at 8/13 to stay, with West Brom favourites at 2/1 if he chooses to leave.

I would rather stay here than go to West Bromwich hope he doesn't move to them in a last ditch for his England place.

I would only sell him to top 6 atleast, if WBA want him loan him for the season and he comes back next year if we go up.

He should only be leaving his boyhood club for Man Utd/City/Liverpool/arsenal/Spurs imo.

seems a lot of competition coming through for english centrebacks. if he wants to keep in touch with that england squad then he probably needs to remain it the top flgight. if chambers ends up moving and playing regularly then he could get in the squad too. then there are mcquire and keane. others already established

If he wants to maximise appearances, Spurs would be the top of his range, Leicester, Stoke the bottom. He hasn't been offered the happy medium yet.

Hope he stays but i doubt it. Considering he has been in the international squad now, i'd imagine making the World Cup squad must be a realistic goal for him and he won't get that here.

Some decent club will come in for him before the end of the transfer window and he'll be off. Can't blame him really.
