Downing why Loan not Sell?

Just heard Palace want to buy him if he has no future under AK we should just sell and get what we can.

Downing why Loan not Sell?

its just rumours. maybe palace trying their luck with a loan deal. cant see us wanting to loan to a rival team. i expect we would only sell to a rival team. otherwise its a loan to the championship which the club might prefer. any fee, wages and length of contract could be a problem with a permanent deal

Maybe we're saying we wont sell to a rival to push up the price.

Who knows, players contracts can be so complex these days there could even be a penalty in there for the club if they sell him before reaching the end - a bit like a loyalty bonus, just in another way.

Scott MacDonalds contract got better the longer he stayed with us apparently. There was also a payment for him should we not have achieved promotion.

I agree he is out to cover wages and free up a spot. But not out permanent for a couple of reasons. We are waiting to see which league we are in next year, we could get more money for him with a promoted team in the summer or to Palace and we don't want him to go there at this point in time.

No brainer we sell. He is 32 and value dropping by the month so sell if we can get anywhere near money back.

We probably thought it would be easier to get rid right now on a loan but if an offer came in then great .

This is just a wild stab in the dark without any real knowledge - but could a loan deal influence the FFP from our last Championship season?

I know we are no longer subject to their rules as such as we're in the Premier League but if Downing's wages / fee were spread across his full-contract - if he was sold - would they have to revise those figures? Possibly leading us to breeching rules and being fined? The fine could be more than the cost of selling him so that might be why they want to keep him for now.

Karanka wants to sell.

Downing wants a loan move, as he hopes there might be another manager in place when he gets back.

If we sell him he can play against us... And will probably have a worldie and score a hat trick. If he's on loan he won't play against us so it's less likely to bite us on the bum.[smi]
