That was the strong hint today from two teams hoping to leap frog Boro towards Championship survival in Charlton and Luton Town. The remaining 9 fixtures would be played out in order. All subject to a vote by Championship clubs next Monday.

A Championship restart on the weekend of June 20th would mean 4 weeks of training after the lengthy enforced break. This week was non contact and the real stuff starts next week. Charlton have revealed they have already pencilled in a couple of friendly fixtures to help boost match fitness as well as fitness. It would also coincide with the start weekend for the Premier League.

Luton Town have re-appointed former boss Nathan Jones and know full well they need a new boss bounce and to hit the ground running if they are not to fall back down to the third level again. They were doing plenty of talking today about the need to stave off possible financial meltdown of relegation in the COVID economy.

Boro have everything to lose because as things stand we are safe 2 points above the drop zone following that last action 1-0 win away at Charlton. That was a very happy Valley for Boro and if the clubs vote not to restart then by any measure it will be enough to clinch our survival.

Playing behind closed doors, in front of empty stadia, will be an unknown quantity for everyone. Boro had momentum going into the break clubs like Charlton and Hull were heading downwards fast. Without any support to get behind the players can the Boro continue to keep their heads above water and stay afloat in the second tier.

Many will query whether football should be going ahead at all. All the Boro players tested in the clear of COVID and the safety of players and backroom staff has to be paramount now. Playing the game without supporters present is going to be pretty soulless in every sense. It is a last resort to get this campaign concluded. All as long as the clubs vote in favour next week.
