“We need the fans more than ever,” was manager Jonathan Woodgate's message to the travelling support going down to west London. He is so thankful for the coninued support for himself, his players and most importantly of all he says, our club, Boro.

Boro travel to QPR looking for an end to a win-less run that has seen us plummet into the drop zone. When it rains it pours and it certainly has done this week, the Boro side will not just be down on confidence but also greatly reduced in numbers by injury, illness and suspension. We are right up against it but the Head Coach was keen to voice his sincere thanks to Boro fans for their support.

The Roll Call on Wednesday looked daunting. “Rudy out, Saville suspended, George Friend just got back into training so he won't be fit, Randolph out, Fletcher out, Browne out, Shotton out, Pears 50/50 (x-ray on finger) , Ben Liddle ill.”

The pressure is mounting for Woodgate and Boro. But he still reckons he is enjoying the challenge and the honour of being manager at the club he supported as a kid. This week I asked him about Derby County and the aftermath when he and Leo and the entire Boro team came across into the away corner to give lengthy applause to the travelling support. As well as saying thanks was it showing we must stick together?

“We need the fans more than ever. No matter if I am in charge, whoever is in charge, the fans need to be with us and they were with us in that game. The Derby fans were shouting 'you're getting sacked in the morning' and the Middlesbrough fans were shouting my name. I was really proud of that moment because, you know what fair play, the manager is getting abused and they are sticking by you even through a really rough period at the football club and that is what you need. You need to stick together. It is no good you having negativity because the bigger picture is the football club.” Woodgate continued and wanted to really emphasise this point. “I was really pleased and I just want to say thanks to them for showing that.”

Add that to a team that has not scored in 4 games and has not won away all season and there is a confidence issue alright. Especially so in front of goal where Britt could have taken an early gift horse chance at Derby to lift so much pressure.

Woodgate continues to back his centre forward who does always come back from goal droughts with goals that is true to say. He was mulling over his options up front as in every department but to be frank there are very few alternatives in front of goal right now. One added to the list is Tyrone O'Neill, the 20 year old's scoring success for Darlo has led to him being brought back to a Boro team with only 2 fit strikers. Could he start?

Woodgate goes into battle with Mark Warburton's QPR side knowing they are enjoying their best start for years in 9th place and 11 points better off than us. It is a QPR side featuring 7 goal Jordan Hugill who had an unsuccessful loan spell at his hometown club. But his success rate this morning is perhaps a timely reminder on how players can turn things around and don't be quick to label someone a donkey.

But what a time and a place for Boro to pull off the most unlikely results. We didn't play badly at Derby yet what a difference a goal could and would make. The longer that goal-less run continues the more the pressure builds. Can we somehow make the net bulge at Loftus Road?

Boro play QPR at Loftus Road, Saturday. Kick off 3pm. We are so up against it. Can we possibly bring back any seeds of hope from the game?

Come on Boro and Up The Boro
