Teesside Lions have launched a new partnership with local charity Teesside Hospice by announcing a gift for all in the form of a 50% ticket discount for the home game against Tameside Vikings this Sunday.

Lions fans are invited to drop a £1 or whatever they can afford into the collection buckets at the game and it is hoped the discount will encourage a display of generosity to support Teesside Hospice without any additional cost to the fans.

Lions Commercial Director Martin Anderson is keen for the club to offer genuine support, stating:

“James (Thomson) and I have been discussing the prospect of supporting a local charity for a while and things have aligned nicely with Teesside Hospice. Following a meeting with Kim Bradley and Ellie Todd from the Community Events & Fundraising team, along with a tour and detailed insight into the great work the charity does, we are keen to help.

“Teesside Hospice does an incredible amount of work for families when they need help the most. We are keen not only to support in a financial way via donations and collections, but also in a proactive way in terms of physical and visible support.”

The club are offering the discount for everyone and the process is simple by entering ‘teeshosp’ at the checkout when purchasing your tickets online via www.TeessideLions.com

Lions Chairman James Thomson is looking forward to helping Teesside Hospice, adding:

“They say charity begins at home and I am so pleased we are in a position to support Teesside Hospice. An adult ticket normally costing £6 can be bought for £3 and with a donation of £1 or £2 to Teesside Hospice our fans are supporting the club, supporting Teesside Hospice and still saving money. It’s a win-win for all and I suppose the only pressure is on the team to make it a triple win!

“We are also wanting to open our doors to patients, families, staff and volunteers as a means to provide experiences and help families create memories.

“At a time when our local community needs help the most, we want to show that we care.”

Kim Bradley, Fundraising Manager at Teesside Hospice, said:

“We are pleased to form this partnership with Teesside Lions. We have discussed an array of ideas and to ‘tip off’ events and this combined ticket discount and donation request is fantastic. As a charity, we need to fundraise more than £6,700 each and every day to keep our services running, and we rely on the support and generosity of individuals and organisations such as Teesside Lions.

“I am looking forward to attending my first basketball game soon and will be following the Lions with interest.”

Lions doors open from 1.30pm at the 1,200 capacity Eston Leisure Centre, Normanby road, Middlesbrough TS6 9AE. Music, team warm-ups and cafe bar active from 2pm.
