Boro have made a first outfield signing of the summer and fans are sure to approve of it being young, promising up and coming player in Marcus Browne from West Ham.

Only 21 years of age Browne can play on the wing of central in midfield. Areas where we certainly need more options. He was really successful on a season loan spell at League One Oxford logging up five assists in 44 appearances.

Strange that Browne should make his name at the club where our other winger Marvin Johnson made his mark. Johnson now is busy trying to resurrect his Boro career showing a great attitude this pre season. He will now have to fight off winger competition in another promising player that has impressed at Oxford.

Meanwhile forward Luke Armstrong has joined Salford City on a 3 year deal. The 23 year old was cheered by his former fans at the Gateshead International Stadium in pre season. He also played at Accrington Stanley last season but a 3 year deal gives him a real opportunity to make a professional career for himself and at the Football League's newest member club. The son of former Boro struker Alun Armstrong, Luke had been re-signed to Boro after impressing so well in the Northern League following his departure at the end of his Academy years. What a chance now for him at a club very much in the spotlight.

Hopefully Marcus Browne will be the first of a few incomings before the transfer window slams shut. If the signings are in the same mould there will be a lot of support from the fans for the path the club is going along.
