Fly Me To The Moon fanzine is back again for next season – 1988 to 2019 means 30 years + and counting. Tony Mowbray to Jonathan Woodgate. There is a mission still to complete. By the fans and for the fans once more unto the breach. Please subscribe.

How will Jonathan Woodgate step up to his first head coach role? Will his knowledge of our youngsters be able to blend academy graduates with a few astute experienced buys? Will Robbie Keane ensure that we have composure and a deadly eye in front of goal. Leo can provide the passion but also an experienced steadying hand. Can the team off the pitch build a team on the pitch to get behind. A Boro to really believe in?

The price of stamps keeps on going up but lets freeze our prices once again – we need to keep the paper fanzine spinning out over into a new era. Please allow us to be your “by the fans for the fans” guide in 10 monthly instalments through the season ahead. Once again just £24 for ten monthly issues via paypal.

The very first photocopied issue of Fly Me To The Moon was sold to the public for Boro v Sheffield Wednesday on the 25th November 1988. A century ago, even a different millenia. We were back in Ayresome then, the other side of the town. We lost that day 1-0... so same old, same old, typical Boro.

But since then we have enjoyed promotions and endured relegations and embraced the excitement of cup finals and experienced European adventures. Recent campaigns have seen us desperately seeking the play offs before the parachute payments drip dry.

Sadly there is no more fanzine shop as Boro Bookworm the successor to Boro Programmes had to finally close its doors through the close season. We were able to enjoy a 30th fmttm birthday exhibition in the shop. But that era has now passed by for ever.

It is a great source of pride that for over three decades the paper fanzine has become as embedded in a matchday tradition at the Riverside as it once was in TS5 at Ayresome Park. From the joint presidency of Gillandi and Robbie Boal through the Downing brothers and down to the present day, Fly Me To The Moon has sought to continue to entertain and occasionally campaign.

In 2018 we took safe standing to parliament, this year we may well be taking up the fight against a European Super League. That is something that would not have seemed possible in 1988.

Since becoming a monthly fanzine fmttm tries to take a more considered view, though Paddy's covers and Roofus cartoon strips remain as bang on the money as always. Some of the covers last season were the best ever.

We unashamedly bask in nostalgia because the collective act of looking back is such a big part of being a football fan. To truly appreciate the highs you have to relive the lows.

Fly Me To The Moon fanzine might have long ago become Fmttm to many but has nonetheless managed to remain as relevant. That is because as always it is still “by the fans, for the fans.” A catch phrase that has been well and truly shared around but it remains absolutely true to life at Fly Me where all the contributions are from genuine Boro supporters.

And what a talented lot we are. Over the three decades it has been our absolute privilege to publish the work of many a creative genius. We need to continue that platform of giving a bit more space to develop, expand and engage than offered by 140 characters of twitter or the cut and thrust (or cut throat) of a message board.
