Gateshead FC play in the sixth tier of football, the National League North. The International Stadium will always be better known for athletics events. Brendan Foster and his famous nights of long distance running around the track will always by synonymous with the place. The stadium is adjacent to the main approach road from Teesside, off the A19, the A184.

Back from training camp in Austria it will be interesting to see which Boro players take to the pitch tonight and whether there will be any interesting promotions from the Academy, a level Jonathan Woodgate knows so well. Last season Lewis Wing made the break through, impressing in pre season. Will there be any other Wing stories this term? Woodgate is on the look out for more youngsters to make the step up. Tonight could be an early indicator.
