Last week's fixtures announcements brought the realities of Jonathan Woodgate's bright new Boro era closer to home. An away fixture at newly promoted Luton Town at the start of August will herald in our hopes of a re set Boro playing pressing, pleasing football with Woodgate and his football brains trust of Robbie Keane, Leo Percovich and Danny Coyne galvanising the troops to ignite the fires of Boro passions once more.

That televised Friday night kick off brings us face to face with Hatters new boss Graham Jones who began his coaching career under Dave Parnaby in our academy. Graham Jones has been a long time assistant to Roberto Martinez at club's Wigan and Everton and country, Belgium.

In other news good to hear of the promotion of Graham Lee to Under 23 coach. Graham has been a big part of the Academy staff for some years now and before that played over 500 games for Hartlepool, Donny and Sheff Wed amongst others. I recall him as a young whipper snapper at Marton, his dad is former Whitby, Synners and Gateshead boss, Tony Lee. Bam Bam was once his bucket man at Whitby. Graham's brother Anthony was on Boro's books at one time, playing for the youth team and reserves. Good Middlesbrough stock then and loads of football experience.

Back to the first team again and Boro fans can get a chance to see the shape of things to come on 28th July when the once mighty St Etienne come to the Riverside. Who amongst us is old enough to remember the losing team in green in the European Cup final of 1976? A 1-0 defeat to Bayern Munich played at Hampden Park, flying winger Dominique Rocheteau coming off the bench late doors and almost taking the game into extra time.
