Boro will face a season finale without three first choice defenders. Dael Fry is the latest Boro defender to be ruled out for this campaign, following a season ending injury to Daniel Ayala in last Saturday's Hull victory. Add to that George Friend checking out for the season at Swansea and we are down below the bare bones at the back.

Boro now have only two fit and experienced centre backs in Aden Flint and Ryan Shotton. Midfielders Jonny Howson and George Saville could see out the four games in wing back roles, the only experienced option would be Paddy McNair, signed as a midfielder from Sunderland but once touted as Gary Neville's successor at Man Utd he is not a stranger to the right back berth.

“Dael Fry has gone down this week and will not play again this season and it is a massive, massive blow again to lose another defender so quickly. To have Ayala, George Friend and now Dael go, three players that were in our back line. To lose them all within ten days is really disappointing.”

Both Ayala (ligaments) and Fry (hamstring tear) have serious injuries that will see them sidelined right through the summer. That will rule both players out from any possible play off involvement and Dael Fry will not be able to join England Under 21s either. After such a superb season for the youngster this is a real blow to him and Boro. It is not too clever on Ayala either, a senior figure for us at the back.

Tony Pulis has to be philosophical about it.

“We need to get on with it, we cannot moan and groan about it. “

The manager has called for everyone to come together against this adversity.

“We need that spirit, that togetherness to really see us through.”

So, it is come on Boro and fingers crossed we do not suffer any further injury set backs.
