Boro fans make the long journey to Swansea hoping against hope that Tony Pulis and the team can find the secret formula to break the goals and points deadlock that have seen us drop like a stone down the league and well out of the play off hunt. We are now playing catch up and hoping everyone else slips up. But it is all completely irrelevant if we don't make that opposition goal net bulge and often.

The beleaguered and under pressure Pulis must shuffle his pack once again and hope someone, somewhere can find net and not post or by pass the man on the line. Some of our approach play and general football has been OK. On Tuesday night, available again, Stewart Downing turned the clock back with a couple of brilliant whipped in crosses. But there was no Jimmy Floyd to convert or Massimo Maccarone to propel himself through the air. Those days seem a lifetime ago right now. And of course they are before the football lifetime for many who have been brought up on European legends as they have endured the slog of second flight campaigning.

At least away from home our form has been solid if not spectacular. Of course there have been a couple of horrendous nightmares of late. The defeat at Villa was as emphatic as their win here at the Riverside. And then of course we can step back into the anger of the last time we visited Wales and that embarrassing cup defeat at minnows, Newport.

Talking of past visits to Wales, the last time we were in Swansea a glaring last minute miss by Rudy Gestede pretty much rubber stamped our relegation from the top flight. No happy memories there and an all too familiar story, unfortunately.

But I cannot leave Teesside on such a dramatic downer. We will win again sometime and Wales was also the country of our greatest cup moment, the Millennium Stadium League Cup victory over Bolton. A club we play next Tuesday. And we can thank our lucky stars that we are not fans of the Wanderers. Be careful what you wish for, you might just get a succession of the worst owners under the Lancashire sun.

Come on Boro let's dig in and sink the Swans.
