Every week away fans are stung when fixtures are rescheduled, forcing them to miss out on the cheapest train tickets.

Last week, Dr Rosena Allin-Khan MP (Shadow Minister (Digital, Culture, Media and Sport) called upon the Government to get behind a Fans' Fare scheme that would give supporters the flexibility and ticket prices they deserve. The Premier League, the English Football League and the Rail Delivery Group are all behind it, and the Transport Minister has agreed to meet to discuss it.

Figures show the extent to which fans are taken advantage of by train companies, even without last minute fixture changes. In Newcastle's first five away games this season, supporters would have had to spend £540 per person to travel. In the first three weeks of the season, six fixtures were rescheduled for TV, which made it impossible for fans to get to or from the stadium in time.

I am sure we can all relate to this as Boro fans. The uncertainty of not knowing when a fixture will be played in Birmingham, London or Bristol leaves us guessing and often paying through the nose.

Dr Rosena said, "I want to show the Minister that fans want greater flexibility and to not be priced out of watching the sport they love. That is why I have launched a petition, to call on the Government to back football fans and take action on this issue."

If we all sign the petition then we could move closer to a fair fare for football fans. How can any minority government ignore the voices of thousands of football fans?
