Boro can take a giant leap forward if we can defeat Aston Villa at the Riverside today in the tea time 5.30pm kick off. You need to get there and add your voice to the Ayresome Angel chorus as we aim to avenge our play off defeat and make a big statement of our promotion intent and credentials.

With four league games this month, 3 points today could be the start of a momentous shift for Middlesbrough. But the games do not come much harder than this head to head. Since Dean Smith took the reigns the Villa campaign has turned around and they have started to look the sum of their parts. Under Steve Bruce, or rather under the current ownership, the club hoovered up so much talent, in particular attacking talent. This means they pose a big threat to any Championship defence. Before the last couple of away games Boro were looking particularly water tight. Can we return to our stingy best today against the threats posed by Jack Grealish and co?

Albert Adomah is injured and so will miss a return against his old side. Rudy Gestede will be out for Boro and so not line up against Villa, shame on those Boro fans that applauded when he limped out of the action at Deepdale on Tuesday night. Lewis Wing could be available, having left the field at Preston unwell, just at the time he was starting to exert a real influence on the game.

Let's hope Boro can repeat the tea time victory at Griffin Park and bring those goals and 3 points back home to the Riverside. Marcus Tavernier is bang on form at the moment, in fact he reminds me a little of a younger Jack Grealish. Let's hope he can make it 3 goals in 3 games. Upfront, Jordan Hugill, struck twice in his last home game. He had a busy game in West London, here's hoping he messes with the Villa backline and continues his home scoring run.

It could be a real classic this evening. A pre Christmas cracker to start December. Villa are fresh off an incredible 5-5 draw in midweek. Hopefully we will stifle their frontline and not allow them anything like those sniffs at goal. But if Hugill and Tavernier and co. can exploit the defensive frailties exposed by Forest then this could be the perfect pre festive present for all Boro fans.

Come On Boro and Up The Boro
