Boro play Wigan this Saturday and 3 points are very much the order of the day. We last savoured a home league win at the Riverside back on September 19th, we need to put that record right and get back into the victory groove once again down by the Tees.

As the Championship pack closes in those heading the promotion chase we could definitely do with converting some of these single pointers to victories. Especially at home.

It is not just the shot shy attack that will come under the microscope this weekend. The midfield have not contributed anything like enough goal wise. They need to be arriving in the box to back up the often isolated striker. Then again for all the many corners and free kicks we are winning those big centre backs need to notching as well. Aden Flint alone totalled a whopping 36 league goals in his time for Bristol City, so far he has been off target on all but one occasion for Boro.

Then there is the clamour for Lewis Wing and Marcus Tavernier to be promoted to the league first team. They have so impressed in our Carabao Cup run and quite rightly were involved on the bench at Stoke. They certainly brought a creative spark late on at the Potteries. With a little more composure from Tav is could have been reminiscent of their game changing impact at Millwall. It could be time for one of them to start and add some real invention as well as willingness to back up the forwards.

Boro Bookworm

This Saturday is another bonus chance to see the Fly Me To The Moon exhibition (upstairs) at Boro Bookworm. Thanks to proprietor, Khadim there are hundreds of Fly Me’s to view as well as a small display of photos, cartoons and other memorabilia amassed over 30 years since the fanzine began in November 1988.

Ayresome to the Riverside. Rioch to Pulis. Mogga to George Friend. And we have been to the moon, the stars, Cup finals and Europe and back.

Experience a flavour of the Fly Me decades on the way to the match, Boro Bookworm, 41 Wilson Street, Middlesbrough. We will be open there for another week. And while we are about this is the birthday issue of the fanzine. Now at the printers and out for sale for the Wigan match. 1988-2018. The official unofficial voice or should that be the unofficial official voice? I’ll get the hang of it one day..
