Boro have a chance to be giant-killers tonight when coming face to face with Premier Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup, fourth round at the Riverside. This tie pits Tony Pulis against former England boss, Roy Hodgson and also against his old club from south London. It also gives Boro fans the chance to see a team in red topple players gracing the Sky televised draw with Arsenal just last Sunday. The League Cup run has been top entertainment for Boro fans so far; make sure you are part of the action tonight. Note kick off tonight is 8pm, down at the Riverside.

There could be many changes again tonight if Tony Pulis decides to stay loyal with some of the players that have proved outstanding on this League Cup run. This could give fan favourites Lewis Wing and Marcus Tavernier an opportunity to shine in a head to head with higher league opposition. Big Ashley Fletcher was another to star in the last round win at Preston and has scored 3 goals in the cup run so far. There could be a few reminders posted by players hoping to push their way forward into the League side. Players that could give it a more creative, crowd-pleasing edge.

Will there be any big names in the Eagles starting line-up? At times they have looked to be a one player team and so surely Wilfried Zaha will not be risked as a starter. But could the winger be poised to spring forward from the bench?

Jason Puncheon came on as sub for the final minutes on Sunday v Arsenal. The forward turned down our approaches in the last transfer window I wonder if he might be enticed into second thoughts for the next window, should he start tonight? Although I am not sure what kind of reception he will receive for snubbing our interest last time around.

Everyone that has witnessed the three games in the cup run would agree they have easily been amongst the highlights of the season so far. To see young players going out and expressing themselves but also giving absolutely everything for the cause has been a real joy. Oh and not just youngsters either, seasoned pros like skipper Grant Leadbitter, Dimi Konstantopoulos and Andy Lonergan have all turned the clock back and made memorable contributions.

There have been some superb team and individual goals and of course two ties have been settled by knife edge penalty shoot out drama. This time we get to come up against top league opposition. Even if Roy Hodgson makes big changes they have a squad filled with experience. And with the serious end of the competition drawing near no one is going to be giving it away; everyone is beginning to sniff the chance of cup glory.

Boro have a strong League Cup tradition as we all know so well. Two losing Wembley finals and one successful cup win in Cardiff. Tonight we have a chance to add to that heritage and take out a Premier scalp.

Tickets are still on sale tonight, priced at £15, £10 for Over-65s and £5 for Under-18s. It cost me £12 to watch Blyth Spartans v York City in an FA Cup prelim game last week so this has to be good value to see Boro take on a Premier team for the prize of reaching the last eight in the League Cup.

There will be a minute silence before tonight’s game, in memory and respect for all that lost their lives in the helicopter crash at Leicester City, please note this is silence and not applause.

Come On Boro and Up The Boro
