On Saturday I will be launching a small display marking the 30th birthday of Fly Me To The Moon. I am giving a short talk at 10.30am in front of the exhibition, upstairs at Boro Bookworm & Sacred Alien Comix  in Wilson Street. So come along on the way to the Boro v Derby match.

Fly Me To The Moon was started in November 1988 – named after Boro manager Bruce Rioch's quote that if he had to go to the moon he would want his captain marvel, Tony Mowbray by his side. Fly Me To The Moon.

From the very first hand drawn, hand typed, photocopied black and white issue, the, by the fans, for the fans, zine has become a bit of a match day institution for many Boro supporters.

From Ayresome Park to the Riverside. Bruce Rioch to Tony Pulis. Tony Mowbray to George Friend and from Issue One to Issue 589 the fanzine continues to hit the streets around the Riverside with fan power.

Many people have contributed over the years. Some have gone on to carve a name for themselves in the media. Bob Fischer, Daniel Gray have both become published authors. Andrew Glover and Joe Nicholson have joined the press ranks. Nigel Downing and Alan Morley have become professional fine artists.

We have produced fanzines, annuals, a record (don't ask), a website and message board, t-shirts (that didn't go too well either) and a podcast. We have been to Europe and Back. We have tasted the big time with Juninho, Ravanelli and Bryan Robson. But now THIRTY YEARS on under the peaked cap of Tony Pulis we are still shooting for the stars and Flying To The Moon.
