Boro go into Saturday’s game with Nottingham Forest still tied for the lead. We are now the meat in a Yorkshire bap between Leeds and Sheffield United. West Brom pulled back a 2 goal deficit at Sheff Wed to be also breathing down our necks again. Can we shoot to victory at the Riverside to strengthen our hand going into the international break?

It was much more like it from Boro at Portman Road on Tuesday night. Great reward for all the intrepid long distance awayday travellers to see the side in red (not white) make such a positive reaction to the hellish Hullish drab draw. We stormed out of the blocks and rediscovered that early season form again, although two recent signings in Mo-Mo Besic and Mustoe-a-like George Saville were at the heart of much of the positive play. Along with man of the match, Stewart Downing, restored to the starting line up again, how we missed his know how at the KCOM.

Now, can Tony Pulis out think and out play our former boss Aitor Karanka as he makes his way back to the stadium that once worshipped his achievements. It has been all change at Forest under Aitor, multiple new faces and even his brother, David, on the bench alongside him.

We defeated AK on his last trip here but they should not be pushovers this time around and the porous defence looks to have far more solidity now. But the prize for a Boro win would be to roar into the international break on the crest of the wave, just as we did after battling against leaders Leeds at Elland Road.

We could put the dip in form behind us and prove that this team can not only keep it tight at the back but knows its way to grabbing goals.

After the terrific TV showing at Ipswich there will be confidence renewed for players and fans alike. Let’s make it count by firing Forest.
