Boro take on Notts County tonight at the Riverside in the First Round of the Carabao Cup, that's League Cup to you and me. 7.45pm kick off. Get down to support a team that will feature many of highly promising young kids.

Boro start out on the cup trail tonight and tackle the oldest club in the League, Notts County, of League Two. The same club shocked us by inflicting a League Cup defeat over us back in 2006, we were top flight at the time. It didn't go down well. But that is history. No repeats this evening.

Tony Pulis has already stated that he will be looking to promote players that have been under used in the squad. Poor Harry Chapman, was seconds away from his Riverside League debut on Saturday until Craig Gardner's red card caused a rethink. He is almost certain to start tonight and probably the same should apply to Marcus Tavernier who made such a big impact when coming off the bench at Millwall. I wonder if 16 year old Nathan Wood will come in to the heart of defence. He was far from intimidated in the summer when facing the full fury of Rochdale's League One forward line.

But it won't all be youth from Tony Pulis, Grant Leadbitter could be offered an opportunity to skipper the side and I wonder if former Man U full back, Paddy McNair, might start beside him in midfield?

Others that come into contention could include Ashley Fletcher and the forgotten man, Marvin Johnson. I wonder if Dimi might start in goal or will it be new signing, much travelled, Andy Lonergan.

Notts County are managed by former Bolton and England midfielder, Kevin Nolan. They are the real Magpies, these black and whites were founder members of the League, the oldest Football League club starting way back in 1862. They probably had to wait a few years for anyone to play. The Notts Magpies spread the game and their colours to Juventus. All long before Newcastle had united in black and white.

Back to Boro and we have made a great unbeaten start in the League with only the 2 points dropped at Millwall. While the League Cup will not be the priority, it is good to keep winning and fans always appreciate a good cup run. Remember there is no extra time tonight, if we are level with County then we will go straight to penalties. Hopefully that will not lead to an endless circus that we experienced at Anfield a couple of years back.

We always enjoy beating the Magpies. Let's see a Boro win tonight. Keep the unbeaten start going.
