Fly Me To The Moon was proud to be asked to host a quiz in support of the Finlay Cooper Fund and so raise invaluable money for local children's charities. What a great night was had by all and a staggering £722 raised.

QuizJimmy Beck, manager of Storytellers pub Stockton asked if we would mind putting together a special Boro quiz Fly Me style. Uncle Harry and myself put our heads together and soon realised we knew nothing about quizzes but we gave it a go anyway. At least we have a few old Boro books between us.

We enlisted the help of football's Miniature G, a veteran of the fanzine scene and also a very fast and efficient marker and he is handy on the microphone as well.

What a night we had. Seventeen teams in all battled it out, trying to make sense of our questions and also throwing themselves into a raffle with fantastic prizes like signed Boro shirts and so much more. In fact Andy from Yarm Reds even kindly donated a football signed by Charlton's Champions. He had only just got it last week. A wonderful gesture.

Over to Jimmy Beck who along with his wife Kathryn did us proud with pies and pints and organisation.

“Massive thanks to Rob Nichols, Uncle Harry and Minature G for putting together some brilliant rounds of football trivia last night for The Big Boro Quiz, Colin Cooper for coming down even though he put Alan Kernaghan down for an answer in the photo round when it was a picture of himself  all the lovely people and companies for their prize donations, the delicious pie and peas from Country Valley Foods and everyone that came out on a Tuesday evening just after a bank holiday weekend.”

That picture clue remains controversial but am keeping my sources a closely guarded secret. Back to Jimmy again.
“The quiz and raffle raised £722 - add that to the weekly quiz and Commitments show since Christmas and we have raised a total of £1508.20 for The Finlay Cooper Fund
Just want to say a special thanks to the wonderful people who take time out to run the quiz on a weekly basis for free.”

Yes I think the normal quiz guys are safe as houses in their position. Chuffed to be asked though and am going to destroy all copies of that dodgy Kernaghan/Cooper photo now.
