Boro play Hull City this evening, the first of two matches against our fellow relegated teams. Boro need big performances and above all positive results to restore confidence that Tony Pulis side can after all mount an assault on the play offs.

The wind was whistling around the Riverside when I was down Middlehaven way at noon. Let’s hope that is subsides a bit to allow some football to be played and that we blow Hull away this evening. Boro v Hull City 7.45 pm kick off Riverside.

Middlesbrough are well ahead of Hull City and Sunderland in the table. A 2-0 victory away at Karanka’s Forest in their last league game has helped the Tigers sneak out of the relegation places. Yet at just one point above third bottom Barnsley, they are still in a perilous position. They were well beaten 4-0 in the FA Cup to Chelsea but there is no real shame in that. Yet must allow them no reprieve tonight.

But for Boro fans it is all about restoring confidence and pride. Tony Pulis came in and reorganised and certainly stopped the defensive frailties, but it is what followed at the other end of the pitch that has been so costly. The team stopped scoring goals and despite dominating games we failed to pick up points, particularly at home.

That lack of confidence has now spread through the team and into the stands. We only narrowly beaten away at Cardiff City but it was a pretty dire game. A classic Warnock v Pulis, bruising, physical encounter played out on a pitch that was a sponge even before it was heavily watered.

Boro fans would like to see more golden moments from Adama Traore tonight, His brace against Reading was quite phenomenal but has been over shadowed by what followed in that game and then against the Bluebirds.

Traore is a quite exceptional talent, lets get him on the ball tonight and let him light up the Riverside and also put it on a plate for the strikers in the box. It would be nice to see young Jack Harrison getting some playing time also. A hot young prospect that people will pay to play football.

We need Rudy, Britt and Patrick Bamford to get that net bulging. Time to convert the half chances and show the Tigers we have claws.

Come On Boro – this is a big week. Time for Tony Pulis to show all his experience and light a spark tonight.
