Fly Me To The Moon fanzine is coming back again for one last campaign but we need your support now more than ever. If we can get sufficient subscribers on board Fly Me To The Moon will make it a 30th season in print. Rioch to Monk, Ayresome to Riverside, Slaven to Friend, Roofus the Boro Dog Not Out, Still Standing 1988-2017/18 and a whole lot else in between.

Who would have believed back in 1988 that we would be contemplating a 30th season of Fly Me To The Moon? An awful lot of water has passed under the Transporter Bridge in those three decades that have spanned two football stadia, promotions, cup finals, European campaigns and of course heartbreak relegations. There has simply been no era like it in the long Boro history from the first 30 a side practice match in Albert Park in 1876.

It is a great source of pride that through three decades the paper fanzine has become as embedded in a matchday tradition at the Riverside as it once was in TS5 at Ayresome Park. From the joint presidency of Gillandi and Robbie Boal to the present day Fly Me To The Moon has sought to continue to entertain and occasionally campaign.

Since becoming a monthly mag we have tended to take a longer view of things going forward and back, though Paddy's covers and Roofus cartoon strips remain as bang on the money as always.

We unashamedly bask in nostalgia because the collective act of looking back is such a big part of being a football fan. To truly appreciate the highs you have to relive the lows. Although we could all do with quickly putting a little more distance between us and the desperate season we have just suffered.

Fly Me To The Moon fanzine might have long ago become Fmttm to many but has nonetheless managed to remain as relevant. That is because as always it is still “by the fans, for the fans.” A catch phrase that has been well and truly shared around but it remains absolutely true to life at Fly Me where all the contributions are from genuine Boro supporters.

And what a talented lot we are. Over the three decades it has been our absolute privilege to publish the work of many a creative genius. We need to continue that platform of giving a bit more space to develop, expand and engage than offered by 140 characters of twitter or the cut and thrust (or cut throat) of a message board.

How could we possibly pull the plug on the fanzine on the eve of a landmark season? Answer we couldn’t. So, we are back for one celebratory and commemorative campaign. Thinking back over three decades and looking forward to Garry Monk’s promotion push as Boro go on the rebound from Premier rejection.
