Blackpool boss Ian Holloway was absolutely gushing with praise for all things Middlesbrough in the post-match press conference after the Boro v Blackpool draw. From a Boro point of view the result was disappointment but no one can dispute with the Blackpool boss that it was a great game to watch.

Thanks to Eric the Red we have a transcript of the comments from the Seasiders point of view and it makes pretty good reading from where I'm sitting.

I.H: “It was a really great game I thought, and that should bring the crowds back. I think the centre forwards looked threatening, they were difficult to deal with at both ends and I couldn’t tell what the score was going to be. It looked we might lose it one minute and then right at the end like we might snatch it. So I thought we showed great character. We handled a very difficult team on a day when they were confident and up for it and started well, they denied us space, and they did something different than we thought they would by closing early and pressing so it caught my team on the hop and we almost came unstuck”.

Question: After coming down last season and readjusting?

I.H: “When you look at the size of this ground, the size of Middlesbrough, we stayed in their hotel right next to the training ground. Are we a Premier League team compared to them even? I honestly don’t think so; we have got a lot to learn. Tony is an experienced manager, a fantastic manager and he is galvanising this group into an outfit and it is not easy. I think Mr Emnes is in fantastic form, I think the balance between him and McDonald, whether McDonald scores or not is irrelevant he drops off, he links it, makes the team look good and blow me he’s gone and got 2, so I was a bit disappointed that he scored the header, he’s probably no taller than me and my centre backs are about 6ft 4in but it is all about movement, it is all about confidence and he was terrific today”.

Question: Staying at Rockliffe?

I.H: “I am absolutely amazed at the standard. I would like to go one step further, everybody here from coming into the car park, from when you arrived at the hotel; I’ve got fantastic memories of the people of Middlesbrough. I think you are absolutely terrific. I think it shows a mark of the man who owns the club of what a great football club and a great hotel and great people you are here. A very ill man was given a box up here so his brother who is a Blackpool supporter could watch the game and I think it is absolutely terrific.

So well done, great game, you should have probably won, we nicked a point, and good luck for the rest of the season until you come to Bloomfield Rd.
