Middlesbrough must now pick themselves up after the disappointment of being knocked out of the National Shield on Sunday at Hull ahead of their derby game this Sunday against Mohawks. The day got even worse as a car full of tadea Lions fans were involved in an accident on the M62/A1 junction and the team bus having to re-route to rescue the stranded fans.

Thankfully no one was seriously hurt although most suffered whiplash injuries after the vehicle hit a tyre in the middle of the motorway.

A more serious incident was avoided after driver; Claire Smith did well to control the Vauxhall Zafira and its 6 passengers although the car was unable to continue and had to be towed back to Middlesbrough.

Lions chief James Thomson was informed of the news and made the decision to turn back. “We had taken a different route and had to take a bit of a detour to get to them. It was good to see the players concern and despite a 2-3 hour addition to the journey, everyone was adamant we should go back. We have a great family feel at the club and are very close to the fans.”

Lions star Richy Summerbell added “The fans made the journey down to support us, it was the least we could do to go back and help out.” The fans had been stood by the motorway for over an hour and were very cold. As soon as the team bus pulled up players jumped out and handed coats and jackets over to keep everyone warm in what was a good show of compassion.”
