Striking Uncertainties

One day before Alves Decision Day and the Brazilian’s lawyer is pressing for his contract to be annulled. According to the Gazette Alves lawyer Pim de Vos is seeking for the two contract Alves to become a one contract man with Heerenveen. This would open the door to his move to Boro. Hurrah!

While firmly keeping fingers and everything else crossed you’ve got to believe that Boro will eventually land the hotshot Brazilian. Surely it will eventually just come down to the right settlement between the three parties. Probably why the negotiations have started in earnest with so many days left in the transfer window. All three teams, AZ, Heerenveen and Boro have time to strike a deal and all get their transfer targets sorted.

The Gazette also reckons we are firming up our interest in Fred. Amazing to think we could have a Brazilian international strike duo. Although Mido is sure to have something to say about that. Am looking forward to the Egyptian’s return. What a difference it wil make having a big but mobile target man upfront. Imagine what Saturday’s team with Mido in the centre would have done to Blackburn. Mind you one player would have had to drop out. Difficult to know who exactly.

Meanwhile young Scottish target Ross McCormack could be staying put at Motherwell. For the time being. The 23 year old is keen to keep playing first team football which is commendable. He probably is thinking back to former Motherwell and Scottish forward James McFadden who despite looking like dynamite for Scotland only made some 50 starts in 4 years at Goodison. We might well face more competition for the highly rated striker in the summer but then again he can probably progress more by playing first team football in the Scottish Premier than in our reserves.

Talking of the stiffs. There will be no Mido comeback for the reserves tonight at Central Avenue. Maybe we are saving him for the two first team games in four days coming up. A young Boro team will take on Newcastle second string at Billingham. I wonder if King Kevin will be there? Or whether he will be contemplating axing their stiffs as he did last time in the job. It is a Boro team including flying wingers Graeme Owens and Nathan Porritt. With all the speculation surrounding Stewart Downing it will surely be a good time for both wide men to shine.

Mido’s international team mate Shawky will be playing for Egypt in the African Nations Cup today. He is the first name on the Cup holders team sheet and after his performance in our win at Pompey could be a key player in next season’s plans.

Let’s hope we are celebrating a new striker signing tomorrow and welcoming back another forward in Mido, almost like a new signing.
