Mansfield Town have announced a major incentive for supporters to purchase season tickets for the 2009-10 Blue Square Premier League season.

If 3,000 people show their interest before May 29th, then adult season tickets will cost only £195 for anywhere in the Field Mill ground.

It follows concerns, from the new owners (Perry, Middleton, and Saunders) over dwindling home attendance figures, and is aimed at getting supporters back into the ground, for what is hoped will be a promotion push, led by manager David Holdsworth.

The deal, represents just £7.80 per game (23 league matches and 2 pre-season friendlies), and is a major discount on last season's £320 adult season ticket price.

It does come with a warning though. Should the magic 3,000 figure not be reached, the price will revert to last seasons price, with those signed up, not wanting to pay the high price, able to opt out of the deal.

Obviously Chairman Andy Perry was right behind the deal, citing that it is "... one of the most positive initiatives in the club's history."

Certainly the improvements from the boardroom over the past few months, have been in stark contrast to that of the dark days of keith Haslam's tenure. Never would have seen such an incentive on this scale, during those horrible led times of the Calver one.

Kid's, the future of the club as we are forever being told, will be left in free if under 13 years of age, as part of the deal, although that is tied in with them going to the game with an adult (common sense I guess if you are that age!).

Concession prices as a whole have also been slashed, with them now priced at just £99, instead of the £180 from last season, again though, this will revert back to the normal price if the 3,000 don't sign up.

So has David Holdsworth had an input on putting this together, we would like to think so, he has been a breath of fresh air since arriving at the club at the end of 2008, and there is real optimism for next season.

He also was 100% behind the annoucement "This is an incredible deal and I really hope the fans buy into what we are trying to achieve", he told the Mansfield CHAD.

Will 3,000 sign up for the deal though? With a hard core number of around 2,000, there has to be a big push and a change of view from a good few others to make the deal work.

We would have liked to have seen the price capped at £150 to really hand out the incentive to the missing hundreds of supporters needed to make this deal work, but will i personally buy into it, Yes I will, and it will be my first season ticket since the 1994-94 campaign.

I really believe that next season is the one we can bring the good times back to Field Mill, with exactly the right manager at the helm as well. I am not just talking about the chances of acheiving something on the pitch, but the whole matchday experience can return to the fore as well. I am talking of 3-4000 supporters back at Field Mill, but only if the club announce decent match day prices to go alongside this season ticket incentive.

The club have thrown down the gauntlet, we hold our breath to see if the town respond......
