Yesterday was a day of surprises for United with the resignation of Roy Keane from the Sunderland squad which is meant to be taking on United in the Premier League.

The shock resignation of Roy Keane comes after Sunderland fans exerted pressure on the manager for not producing the results and taking Sunderland further up the League table. Under Keane, Sunderland fans have seen their team progress from the bottom of the Championship table into the Premier League and then last season they importantly managed to stay up finishing in 15th place. This season however has produced a difficult set of result for Keane, as Sunderland hover in 18th position just inside the relegation zone and below all of the North Eastern counterparts.

Ferguson has expressed his disappointment at the departure of Keane ahead of their meeting tomorrow and has also backed Paul Ince in his management of Blackburn. As United see their former players moving into the Premier League management and producing some results one always wonders how long they will last in their current posts and who, if any, of them will follow in Ferguson's footsteps at United.

While I expect we shall not see Keane returning to the management or coaching spotlight in the near future, let us give him credit for what he has done with an ailing team. Keane has done all he can for Sunderland and has now created a massive search for a replacement. The bookies have their money on Sam Allardyce as favourite to take over at Sunderland as they battle to get their heads above water and out of the relegation zone.

This creates an uncertainty about the match on Saturday instead of a reunion from Sir Alex Ferguson, United are likely to play all out in the match as they hunt down the leaders Liverpool and Chelsea.
