It is fast becoming the talk of the football world, with money worries in every industry in the world, it had to enter the football world sooner or later. As UEFA starts proposals for clubs with massive debts to be banned from European games; the select committee have yet to put forward their proposals for the effective working of the idea. In spite of this Ferguson forges ahead with transfer talk starting to heat up around the veteran manager.

Van Der Sar who is pushing 38 now, in football terms is set for retirement, even with an emergency call coming out from the Dutch team for him to come out of international retirement and fill an empty hole in the Dutch goal; though Van der Sar who is currently contracted until next summer, has announced he is likely to see retirement at the end of the season. The big question is whether or not Ferguson is going to splash out and bring in a replacement or if Ben Foster or Tomasz Kuszczak is ready to fill the big boots of Edwin? With the retirement of Coton earlier this year, Eric Steele, the goalkeeper coach, has plenty of work to do with the three goalkeepers to prepare United for the imminent retirement of Edwin over the next year or two.

Real Madrid continue to stir the pot around Christiano; only a day after he was quoted in papers as saying how pleased he was that the United fans had accepted him back into the team. The summer controversy over his move to Real Madrid gave all United fans plenty enough to shout about. Ronaldo went from being a much loved goal scorer at United to enemy of the club literally overnight, upon his final return to the squad it was still unclear how the fans would react to the ‘ traitor’. Despite the summer controversy after Ronaldo’s apology to the fans and the club, he was greeted by a round of applause as he took to the field in Old Trafford. The Real Madrid has clearly stated in no uncertain terms that Real Madrid will sign Ronaldo and they are hoping to sign him for the start of next season. The big question is will Ferguson sell him off if another fiasco like this summer happens again? Or will he again stand firm and refuse to sell Ronaldo to rivals Madrid.

United have meet Madrid once again in what seems likely to become a bidding war as both clubs have shown a keen interest in Douglas. The 18 year old Brazilian hails from Gremio, the same club Anderson originally played for; with Gremio’s financial difficulties at the moment thy seem keen to sell the youngster for a fee in the region of £20million. In reality Jaap Stam the United scout seems pleased with the youngsters possibilities even though he has not yet played 2 whole game at senior level. This kind of search has already produced the likes of Rafael, Fabio and Possebon for United, who are already showing their extensive talent at 18 years old. Is United set to lose the English aspect of the club? An American owner, a Scottish manager and so many Brazilian youngsters I really wish to see some English youngsters coming into the squad. Fletcher the main English player to come through United’s youth squad has been a late starter in current football standards though is showing some great qualities now. Johnny Evans the young Northern Irish defender has been a star in the Northern Irish quest to qualify for the Wold Cup, though his suspension over the weekend means he will be sorely missed in tonight’s match.

England take on Belarus tonight, without captain Terry and left back Ashley Cole. Capello has called for reinforcements from the England U21 squad in Joe Hart (Goalkeeper) and David Wheater (Defender), though we are more likely to see Bridge replace Cole and Upson replace Terry alongside our own Ferdinand. Capello has yet to name his squad for tonight for definite, but there are unlikely to be many changes to the squad with Rooney and Walcott up front, the midfield is the only difficulty for Capello at the moment but Gerrard and Lampard likely to head up the midfield.

The match is live on Setanta Sports and kick off is at 19h30 tonight with highlights on ITV later on in the evening.
