A late kick off this afternoon will see United at Ewood Park taking on a strong Blackburn team. United who came off three consecutive wins in three different competitions, Middlesbrough were ejected from the Carling Cup, Bolton were seen off in a controversial match last weekend and then United beat Aalborg in the Champions League earlier this week.

The midweek clash in Denmark saw more players injured out of the United squad surprisingly all United’s injuries are English players. Scholes is confirmed to be out for at least 10 weeks, he joins Carrick and Hargreaves on the injury list. Rooney is likely to also be joining them this week, though Ferguson feels he will be fit enough for England’s matches next weekend. Gary Neville who missed the midweek clash has picked up a slight thigh injury adding a further English player to the injury squad.

Ferguson will be picking from the following players: Van Der Sar, Amos, Vidic, Ferdinand, Evans, Evra, Rafael, O’Shea, Ronaldo, Fletcher, Giggs, Anderson, Park, Nani, Tevez, Berbatov, Welbeck and possibly Rooney.

This choice means Ferguson may have a very interesting midfield choice, with Ronaldo saying that he is not entirely match fit and still recovering, Ferguson may go for Park down the right with Ronaldo a 60th minute substitute, two of Anderson, Fletcher and O’Shea in the middle and Nani or Giggs down the left again. We will see Berbatov and Tevez up front; the big choice is who Ferguson places on the bench as his 60th minute replacement.

Blackburn are not without their own injury concerns. Robinson and Grella are nearly match fit though still seem unlikely to play in this big clash. Ince played Jason Brown in goal last week and Brown is desperately hoping he has managed to secure a place against United this afternoon. Steven Reid out with a knee injury and the South African Benni McCarthy also doubtful, although he is match fit he may not be 100% accurate with lack of matches lately.

In the United background, Scholes has signed a new deal alongside Fletcher. Fletcher securing a 3 year deal taking him till June 2012 and Scholes putting pen to paper until at least June 2010, a further year on his current contract.

All four of United December fixtures will be shown on television after a few minor changes to the match times. The only game that is being rearranged is completely is the Wigan match, which was meant to take place on the 20th of December. United cannot play this match as they will b in Tokyo for the FIFA World Club Cup at that time. A new date for that match is still to be confirmed by the FA.
